Forty young boys and girls marched down the aisle of St. John's church last Sunday to receive their first Holy Communion. The class was led into church by six little servers and six flower girls. The church was beautifully bedecked with flowers for this very religious occasion. Making up the communion class were: Catherine Blythe, John Brennan. William Burke Maureen Crist, Linda Casey, Dever Casey, Neil Davis, Eugene Deidrich, Doris Deidrich, Theodore Deidrich, John Emmerich, William Emmerich, Mary Catherine Frederick, Jo Ann Freund, Kevin j Freund. At 7:30 in the evening the First Communion class and this year's graduating class marched into the church and formed the living rosary. The May crowning took place fol- \ lowing the recitation of the Closing: of Bowling Season With the warm weather starting now everyone starts thinking about getting outdoors. With this thought in mind most of "the bowling leagues that started last fall are now coming to a close. The Friday night men's 7:15 league came to a close last week with the following men bowling some pretty good scores in the doubles, first, Paul Pitzen 548 and Tom Oeffling, 500; second, Ted Schaefer 522 and Joe Huemann 508; third, Pat Hiller 523 and Pete Freund 486; fourth. Butch Nowak 579 and Marv Bauer'424; fifth, Mike Schaefer 613 and John Thelen 370 and sixth. Lee Hiller 504 and Frank Schaefer 468. These scores are actual pins. The Iturrv Uppers ended their season with Eva Schaefer and Lois Anderson coming out in first place in the doubles with an 1109. combined score, second was Vivian Smith and Helen Keippel with a 1053 series; third, Lou La Bay and Rosemary Thelen 1000; fourth. Alyce Wilcox and Rosemary Young 972; fifth, Bonnie Meyers and Alice Ross 967 and a two way tie for sixth. Madeline Johnston and Bunny Thelen and Laura Schmitt and Mary Murphy 961. The above scores inc'udf handicap. The girls will be heading for Dundee this Thursday evening to enjoy their annual banquet. Art Fair Entries Entries for the forthcoming art fair will be accepted up to May 18. If you would like to enter but would like more information. please contact Mrs. Richard Wilhelm at 128-M. Some 175 persons including Father Blitsch, club membefrs and their "best gals" enjoyed a most delicious family style roast beef dinner. Once again the cooks and waitresses are voted a special thanks for making this annual event always so jierfect. Mrs. Catherine Guzzardo was present on this particular evening to play her organ which she does so beautifully. She played selections throughout the dinner hour and really "bounced" them out later in the evening. Discussions on this year's, carnival and other important matters were discussed at the short business meeting which followed the dinner. A social evening followed the adjournment of the meeting. Around the Town ' Mrs. Margaret Morick and daughters, Cindy and Genine and Mrs. Mary. Smeltzer, Nancy and Tommy, all of Rockford were guests recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith.. On May 3, Ann Doran of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Inar Fossum and Edna Gietchell were their guests. On Thursday of last week, the eighth graders accompanied by several women chapt> rones traveled by bus to Chicago to visit the Museum of Science and Industry. Mr. and Mrs.. Ray T. Smith returned last weekend after spending a delightful time visiting the East Coast. Mrs. Calvin Cann'and children of Bourbonnais, 111., kept the Smith children, Gerry, Jack and Jean company until their parents return. Don't forget the P.T.A. meeting on May 18 for all St. John's members. Last Sunday Jean Hettermann was feted with a party honoring her First Communion Day. Present in the Hettermann home for dinner were: Mr. and Mrs. Herb Simon, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hansen and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Elshoff and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Thompson and family and Joe Simon all of McHenry. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wayman and family of Arlington Heights and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wagner and family of Janesville, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Don Dowe and Mrs. Helen Hettermann. Chicago visitors at the Jim Hettermann home for celebration of Jby's First Communion Day were: Mr. and Mrs. John Dehn, Mrs. Bert Davis . and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Besskow. The Richard Dehn family were also present on this day. Troop 408 discussed their field trip at their recent meeting. Games and cookies were enjoyed by the girls for the rest of the warm afternoon. Troop 295 took a long hike last Wednesday climaxed by an ice cream treat as a reward for their good job on the cookie sale. Troop 378 practiced their skit for the Mother-Daughter tea and played various games outside. The troop was treated to cookies and orange juice by Jean and Joy Hettermann. A note of importance to Mothers of either Girl Scouts, or Brownies. The Mother- Daughter tea will take place on May 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the community club hall. Please be punctual. Linda Mangold a n d Karen Huemann of troop 408 and Pam Marshall and Karen Haubold of troop 135 were flag bearers and color guards at the dedication of the new post office last Monday. Visits Sons Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Mc- Mahon and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Huemann were in Milwaukee last Sunday to visit their sons Tom and Jim, at Marquette university.
