The Willows at Island Lake. The winners were: 1st -- Larry Dodd, Frank Nickrebecki. 2nd -- Ed Kraeplin, Bud Milinac. 3rd -- Don Voigt. Two prospective members, Ron Mueller and Russ Cohan also entered the run and came in 1st and 3rd. Frank Neckrebecki entered the State Line Road Run and won 3rd place. McHenry's foundling track team was beaten again Monday at its final home meet, 84-; 34. The score, however, does' nothing to indicate the great? effort put forth by everyone on the Warrior team. All but four of McHenry's poinl total were accounted for by firsts which are worth five arid • P°*m^s ea°h- Mike Creighton accounted for three of these with victories in the 880-yard run (2:09.6). 120-yard, higl^ hurdles (:16.4), and high jump (5'11"). Mike again bettered the school record in the high hurdles and achieved a personal high tor the high jump. In 1he high jump, incidentally. Mike had to beat two Barrington boys who qualified for the State contest in the Evanston District Meet Saturday. Mike would have qualified with a jump of 5* 11" in the meet Saturday. Jim Jones accounted for his fifth conference victory in the mile with a time of 4:56.8. "Sonny" Hocin and Jim Creighton achieved their first conference victories in the 180- y a r d , l o w h u r d l e s a n d t h e broad jump, respectively. "Sonny"' bettered the school record in the low hurdles in 22:5 sec., and Jim had a very good jump of 19'4. Our other points were accounted for by Bruce Hint/.p in the discus. Jay Walkington in the mile, "Butch" Justen in the 220-yard sprint and Wilkinson in the pole vault. Crappie fishermen are reportedly making fine catches in Wonder Lake lately. Minnows and streamer flies are the most productive baits used. The other night we enjoyed the sport of landing a seven pound channel cat on our fly rod. This is by no means a great feat, but a lot of fun nevertheless. When the big fellow, accompanied by three of his smaller cousins appeared on the table the rest of the family enjoyed what they consider the best part of fishing. Last Saturday afternoon a friend and ourself headed for the creek here in McHenry where we keep our boat. Upon arriving we discovered the boat had been stolen. A few little "nuggets of wisdom" were mutlered through tightly, clenched teeth, but all was not lost as far as the fishing went. Bill Althoff came to the rescue with a kind offer to lend us his boat. The theft was reported and Monday evening we were notified by the sheriff's office that our craft had been recovered and the culprit apprehended. We are very grateful to everyone who helped us recover the boat. The McHenry Sportsmen's C l u b i s h o l d i n g n i g h t t r a p shoots from dark to ten o'clock Friday night. Everyone is invited to take part. SOPHOMORE TEAM WIMS THRILLER AT LIBERTYVILLE, 7-6 By Jack Yegge In a very well played and exciting game McHenry defeated Libertyville 7-6. DeCicco started the game and was relieved by Morenz in the third inning. The first hit of the game was a double by Sanford. Klapperich struck out. Gates singled and was out trying for second. Sanford scored on the play. Hiller walked and Buckie flied out. In the fifth inning Gates, Hiller, Buckie, Morenze and Pay all scored to tie up the fhme. The seventh inning started off with Yegge getting hat by ft pitched ball. Zank singled moving Yegge to second. Sanford struck out. While Klapperich was up to bat Yegge stole third and scored when the catcher threw over the tfcird baseman's head. This proved to be the winning run. Klapperich and Reese struck but to end the game. WRITERS* CLUB MEETS The Crystal Lake Writers' club will meet Thursday, May 14, at 8 p.m. at the home of Clarence Sparks, 325 Putnam avenue, Woodstock. Anyone interested in writing is welcome as a guest at club meetings. If it will please her at her age, why not tell her she's beautiful? But don't yawn when you say it. McHENRY HOST TO NORTH SUBURBAN GOLF CONFERENCE Last Monday six members of the North Suburban Conference participated in the annual golf tournament held this year at the McHenry Country Club. Each school team consisted of 5 players, however, team score is the total of 4 lowest scores. Lowest team score went to Barrington with a 319, McHenry placed second with a 329, followed by Crystal Lake with a 347. Individual medalist went to Larry Grelli of Barrington with a 77; Gary Adams, McHenry, and Cary Wickland, Barrington, tied for second with 79's, tied for fourth at 80 were James Roufman, Harrington and Jeff#Jones, Crystal Lake. By Judy Dolce McCullom Lake Sportsmen's Club ARCHERY The archery section of the McCullom Lake Sportsmen's Club will be in full force next Saturday and Sunday from 1:30 p.m. on to? to start the season properly. Fifty butts were purchased for a good will gesture by our club to be erected for seven butts four bales high and for a backdrop of about 30 extra ones to stop the stray arrows from bouncing over into the next field. All are invited to visit, w&tch, or participate. Come over and ask questions about this sport -- it may be the means of getting better acquainted with your next door neighbor! Also, picnic lunches are in order, and bring a pencil for a score card which will eventually be in order, too. Old and young alike are asked to participate to loosen those shoulder and back muscles and to help in coordinating both mind and body. What's that famous saying--? 4-H -- H e a r t - H e a l t h - H a n d s - And?-- you know the other one I am sure. Come out and live a little in the bright sun!
