t 1 Pigi Fourteen Eastwood Manor LARGE CROWD AT SUCCESSFUL EMPOA MEETING Lois Ryan -- 2510-R / THE McHENRY PLAINDEALEB Wednesday, May 27. 1959 The May meeting of the EMPOA was a huge success. We ran out of coffee and there were only three doughnuts left. It was wonderful! We were so glad to see so many residents of the community taking an interest in its affairs. A committee was formed for the bake sale which will be held in a store in McHenry on June 27. Betty Radner is the chairman. The committee regrets to announce that the party which was scheduled for May 23 has been postponed until June 6 at 9 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and are available from Pat Cisewski and Marie Dalton, So bring your friends and come to the barn to enjoy an evening of fun. Tom Simpson gave a report on the landscaping contest, r There will be a number of prizes for various gardens, and one large prize for the best planned landscaping of one home. Come on. everybody, let's get busy! A n o t h e r c o m m i t t e e w a s formed to look into the cost of mosquito control for the subdivision, and one for deciding on chairs for the association. Hannah Harner is back to normal again . walking off with first prize. Mim Hansen won the travelling prize. Accident Mary Lou Barry put in an emergency call to the hospital when she found the repairman, who was fixing her washer, on the basement floor. The man had received a violent electric shock when he used an electric dra's mother, Mrs. Henry Kin-' caid, her sister, Mary Ellen, her grandmothers, Mrs. Dixon and Mrs. Kincaid, Lois Greffin, Marion .Anderson, Marge Wonsik, and Annette Schroder helped the gals surprise the bride-to-be. Two heart shaped cakes with an arrow going through them was served with coffee and tea. The Cisewski family was busy over the weekend. Sick List The germs are really getting around the subdivision this week. Peggy G^irrelts has a bad throat. Georgia Sigman has the mumps. When mama gets them look out! Little Paul Dethlefson has the mumps too. He's trying hard to get over them because his grandparents are coming in from California this weekend. ; Greg Fultz and Martha Simpson are down with the chicken pox now. Two weeks ago it was Jimmy Fultz and Steve Simpson. They just passed it on to the younger ones who think it's great fun to find the spots. Helen Mathes is talking through her nose on account of a cold that is spending some time in her head. This and That Jim Penick's parents were up from Baton Rouge, La., to spend a very pleasant ten days here and go on to visit more relatives in Missouri and Texas before returning to their home in Louisiana. It was a wonderful visit and a long-tobe remembered one. Especially for the children who don't get a chance to see their grandparents very often. Winnie and Len Hansen were taking life easy when they heard a knock on their door. Winnie, with her hear half up in pin ^curls and in her pajamas when this occurred, was not prepared for guests. However she had them anyway. The Lawrences, the Garrelts, the McCormacks, the Krebses, and the Neivlons dropped in to surprise the Hansens for their anniversary. Lynne Marie Monahan celebrated her birthday in style with a party. Barbara Krebs, Kathy Hadley, Marion and Nancy Olson, Terry Lahman, "and Donna Meyers helped Lynne Marie blow out her birthday candles. Pre and Bob Lindemann and the children attended a double celebration on Mother's Day. They spent the special Sunday in Chicago at Pre's mother's home. It was Mrs. McGrane's birthday. In the evening they attended a housewarming at the home of Pre's brother and h^s wife, the. Reilly McGranes. Peggy Anderson spent five days with relatives in Salt Lake City. It was fun and nice to get away, but she's glad to be home with her family again. Mary Lou a,nd John Barry and Delores and Frank Woolwine attended the soft-ball dance last Saturday at the VFW in McHenry. Reports are that it was a very good night. The Campbell family also had a busy weekend. Sunday, anyway. From Melrose Park came Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Campbell and children, J. N. Campbell, and Joe Benton and from McHenry came Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Rollins and children to have dinner and play a little soft-ball. Marilyn Fultz's dad, Mr. Rockey, from Fort Wayne. Ind., arrived on Sunday for a visit. He left on Tuesday after a pleasant stay with Marilyn, Jack, and the boys. Mim and Lee Hansen had a wonderful time at a dinner given in their honor: The couples who gave the dinner were John and Carol Hayes. Nancy and Ray Lessard, Pat and Lew Kellogg, Mary and Dave Hadley and Homer and Peggy Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Hankermeyer and their two children came from Elmhurst on Sunday to visit/with the Lee Hansens anc| see uieir new baby daughter. Helen Mathes &ave an afternoon birthday party for Charlotte Urban. Coffee and cake was served to Delores Wooiwine, Lena Campbell, Carol Hayes, Larry Moore, Mim Hansen and Dottie Messer. Charlotte Urban's folks came lor a Sunday visit from Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Kaufman enjoyed the journey and the day. LeRoy and Donna Rohrer and the children just returned from a delightful trip west. They had lived in Arizona when LeRoy was in the service, so that was their first stop to visit with old friends. Then they went on to Mexico, California and Las Vegas. They also stayed over in Arkansas. It was a most enjoyable adventure for the Rohrers. On Sunday, May 24, Matt and Jean Mersch and the boys drove to Niles for a birthday dinner party given in honor of their three year old neice, Mary Lynn Lorenzi. They all enjoyed the visit. Meet YOur Neighbors The Walter Kuck (Cook) family came to Eastwood Manor on April 26, *1959. Walter and Eleanor are the proud parents of Barbara, who will be nine on Aug. 8, and Eugene, who was eight on Jan. 12, and Ernest, who was six on March 9. Walter works in Libertyville. Confirmation Well the excitement of having someone making his First Holy Communion is over and then some of us had to get ready for Confirmation. Linda and Dever Casey had two busy Sundays in a row as did Pauline Schnieder. At the LaBay, Schultz and Gunther houses We each had one for Confirmation so we all have been pretty busy and I still have one for graduation on the last Sunday of this month and then it will be quiet for another year. Graduation Party The seventh graders at St. John's gave a party for the eighth graders on Wednesday. They had the tables decorated so nicely for this festive occasion and there was plenty of food for all. A good time was had by all. Sock Hop On Friday May 15, at the Jbhnsburg school a tulip dance was held for the sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Mr. Stamer of Pistakee Bay gave three prizes in a dance contest and one of our boys, Larry Heitz, won first prize. the Chapel Hill Country club there was a chicken dinner for. the Johnsburg- school basketball team and their fathers and for the cheerleaders and their fathers. Awards were given for the best players and the cheerleaders were given emblems for their sweaters. The pretty gals who received the letter "Jj' to sew on their sweaters were Janice Ripley, Jeanniejo Benoche and Jean Womack. Sick List Elizabeth Metzger and .her soil, John, are finally starting to feel better and they sure are grataeful to "Aunt Helen" who came from Waukegan to take care of the sick ones and the healthy ones too. Our prayers and hurry-up and get-well wishes are being sent to Harvey Murray who is in McHenry hospital. So if you can, drop a line to cheer him. Home Bureau Our unit vpted to stay an evening group and there are so many things that have to be done I only hope that we will all pitch in and get them done. For that Fair in August we will only have to work the first day from 2:30 until 7 because there are enough units that will be able to fCirnish workers for the refreshment -booth that I'm sure we will be able to have our share of .workers also. Each member is to donate a home-made pie or money which will be used for Basketball Banquet On Wednesday May ,20, at ED'S RENTAL RENTS Electric Hammers to Wheel Chairs buying eggs. Please try to give it to Pat Spindler before July, We have some new liiembera and Pat said that if we got three more that would make thirty and we would be 100 per cent and would surely get the gavel for it by July. New Son Dolores and Theodore Prell are rejoicing over the arrival of their first child, a son, born May 9. The baby, who weighed 8 lbs. 4 oz., will answer to the name Kurt Edmond. Well again I would like to "say I hope you all have a nice safe Memorial weekend. 4-H News There was a meeting of the Busy Three 4-H club on May 12 at the home of Carol Jean Anderson. We decided that for our trip this year we would go on a picnic some time before the Junior fair and after the fair we would go to the Wisconsin State fair. The project books were looked over to see that they were up to date. After the meeting, refreshments were served. The next meeting will be at Keith Weingart's home on June 9. Snday, following the prom, Richard and his fiance, Lucy Williams, his sister, Joyce, and William Frett visited Brookfield Zoo and then Riverview, climaxing a memorable week^ end. Next Sunday his folks will take him to Midway airport, from where he will return by plane to California.oHe recently spent much time in Hawaii, China, Japan and the Phillipines.
