Matt Eichinger' and Rich Smith closed out their golfing careers for MCHS with an impressive team record of 9 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie. Matt is a four year letterman and Rich is a three year letterman in golf. While serving with the golf, team Matt has taken 2nd in i the conference, qualified twice j c for state competition at Champaign, and won 80% of his matches playing in the number one position . for the last three years. Rich Smith has not compiled the record Matt has, but he has earned three letters, and was always pushing Matt for the No. 1 position. Rich has proven that with hard work and practice, golf can be learned. As a freShman, Rich shot a 112, and by his senior year he had an average of 80 for 18 holes. Both boys will be missed next year. . The golf team and Coach Cuda would like to thank Julius Goffo for the advice and wonderful cooperation he has given the team. STANDINGS In the 3rd round of the Directors tournament in class A, Overton beat Wheelock, and Kadisak beat Sayler. In flaw B, Hoffman beat Rode, and Reihansperger beat Bruns. In the finals next Sunday Overton vs Kadisak, and Hoffman vs Reihansperger. Both of Sunday's matches should be very exciting as nobody gets to the finals of a tournament without consistently being able to shoot at or below his handicap. , Due to the paper being a day early this week low nets, and Blind Bogey were not figured out yet. The lowest round shot this week was a 72 by Norman Knaack. ' I would like to apologize to Earle Seepe, and Harold Michels. Last week I said that the 67 I shot was a course record. I had been of the opinion that 68 was the course record and had been held by Earle, Harold, Jimmy Clark and myself. It seems that I was completely wrong as both Harold, and Earle had 67's last year. Please forgive me fellas. The annual spring men and ladies outing was held Sunday afternoon with the winners being Earle Seepe and Nadine Larkin, and Ray Johnson and Rita Sayler. Both teams had 44, which is very good shooting. With the Yankees in the cellar, we Sox fans naturally feel that we have a good chance for the pennant. It still seems hard to realize that a team, with as much talent as the Yankees have, being any place but 1st place. I feel that if Bill Veeck wants to do us fans the biggest favor in the world he would get a new announcer. Bob Elson is probably the finest interviewer around, "but this still doesn't make him suited for baseball announcing. Maybe it's because as he always tells us he did the world series and All-Star games for years, he thinks that nothing else is exciting. Well, when he's announcing nothing else is. Editor's Note: Since our Golf reporter ha£ strayed from the course to th|| diamond again, we hasten t6< add that the views of the writer are not necessarily the views of this newspaper.
