JULY 25 j^cCULLOM LAKE NEWS .. 1 Eve Levesque b & i The date for the annual fun festival has been, officially Scheduled for Saturday, July 25 and is being sponsored by tfce Cullom-Knoll association. '^This is the club which is responsible for beach maintainpnce and purchasing new equipment. The funds realized from this affair will be used fpr that purpose. Bil|^Walter has a fine staff pf organized workers and the plans are moving along smoothly. Highlight of the day will be the choosing of "Miss McCullom Lake" who will be presented with a trophy and other • gilts. The lucky lass will be chosen from a group of young ladies in the 4-9 age bracket. Registration for this event will bpen soon. , Th<§fe will be food, games, iind fun for the entire family. Here's hoping it will be a huge success! !\ }, TrV-x ; Dancing Under the Stars Saturday night the ' teen iagers of our community held jtheir first dance of the season at the beach. The place was jgaily lighted, but the cool Wather kept many of the i £youn|jPters away. The young I rpeople have a wonderful time | at these affairs and here's hoping they gain impetus as the jseason progresses. '• The young fellas and girls ttiet at the home of Mrs. Nada jposta. last Wednesday to elect iqfficers and form their committees. Miss Melinda Scarbrough was elected president and urill have Greg Burg assistingin the capacity of vicepresident. Judy Murray should prove a very capable secretary, and Barbara Sawdo will be handling the finances of the club. 4 Many chaperones will be needed throughout the season and the committee in charge would appreciate volunteers. The number to call is 3477 and ask Jjpr Sandy Passalaqua. Sand"is being assisted by Barbara Lorch, Charles Tomasel- ]p and Greg Burg. You can get in touch with any of these young people. Please do your ipart and take your turn! It's iftin! Our 'teensters are very fortunate to have the sei-vices of Mrs. Costa who will advise and guide them. Meetings will be eallet^when needed. Thy dances start at 7:30 p.m. and are ended promptly at 11 p.m. Boys and girls who are under 13 are requested tq^ jeave at 9 p.m. This meeting was recessed until Monday night of this week in order to pass the appropriations for '59-'60. Three sealed' bids for road work were received and read by Don Parenti, road commissioner. One of the contracts is to be investigated further before a final decision is made. Karl Koch, village attorney, was instructed by the trustees to draw up a "nuisance" ordnance. The motion was made by Arthur Stuhlfeier. CARD OF THANKS We would like to thank our relatives, friends, and the residents of the village of McCullom Lake who helped ease our sorrow at the time of our greats loss. Another lad came to join the family of Gert and Bill Walter of Orchard Drive. Seems as though they are in a rut! This is the third son for this nice young couple. Kurt (no middle name selected yet) arrived Saturday. June 13 about 8:20 p.m., weighing in at 7 lbs., 4 ozs. and measured 19% inches. Gert and Efill have already made an appointment at the. local barber shop to have his shrubbery trimmed! No hair tonic for this boy! Memorial hospital, Woodstock, was the scene of the birth. Mother and son doing just beautifully. .Waiting eagerly for baby were Bill Jr., age 4,2 and Bruce who wilFrfe 3 next month. Congratulations to the entire family. In Serious Condition 'Sorry to report that Conrad Gustafson is very ill in St. Therese's hospital. Waukegan. He was rushed there after suffering a heart attack two weeks ago. He will be hospitalized for several more weeks and then about 6 months convalescence at home. Please remember "Conny" with cheery messages. Gets mighty lonesome so far from home. Sorry to have missed his birthday May 26. Little League Games Our little Cubs will battle it out on the ball field with the Braves tonight at the beach. On Monday night', the Sox will i motor to Greenwood to chal- | lenge their Giants. Tuesday j night, June 23, our Braves will i tangle with the Wonder Lake (Yankees also at our beach. These kids are going great. Artistic Display The Country Art^Fair^which is being sponsored t>y the Mc- Henry hospital auxiliary will be held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of this week at \ the Junior high school. Artists from all over the area will be displaying their work and you won't want to miss it. Purchase of a ticket entitles you to attend any or all of the events. Reserve some of your weekend time for this cultural exhibit. V. F. W. Auxiliary News Another Milestone In their lives was passed when,seven of our young folks graduated from McHenry high school last week. They were Donna DeMar, Roberta Meyer, Phyllis Piotrowski, Anthony Hocin, Donald Hayes, Ronald Creutz and Tom Olsen. Loads of luck in future undertakings. Ladies of the Lake Mrs. Ethel Fox was welcomed into the fold at the last Scads of Good Wishes To Mr. and Mrs. Earl Murray who were wed twenty-one years on Thursday, June 11. Happy birthday to Janet Murray who will be twelve tomorrow, June 19 and to Elma Nelson who will aiso be observing her natal day then. It will be the eighty-third birthday for Mrs. Augusta Hoeft, Emma Pyritz's mother on Saturday, June 20. June 21 is the wedding anniversary of Marie and Vic Howe, Shirley and Len Jensen who will chalk up twenty-seven years, and Dorie and Bill Brennan who will observe thirteen years all on this date. Congrats to all! 'Nut her reminder for Pop's Day, Sunday, June 21. See you next week. The V.F.W auxiliary to Fox River post 4600 held fts regular meeting Monday, June 8, at the V.F.W. clubhouse. President Daisy Smith gave her thanks to Vera Cierock, Bernadette Cisewski, Gen Bradley and Mary Lou Miller for marching with her in the Memorial day parade. June Schmunk, poppy day chairman, reported a successful poppy day and thanked all the workers and her co-chairmen, Bernadette Cisewski. • Barbara Becker, hospital chairman, gave her report of the last Downey hospital party. Plans were discussed for the carnival. As you know our carnival is July 16.17. 18 and 19. We would like to make this carnival a big success as in the past years. One way is for each j of us to help as much as we can. How about it? Gen Bradley is chairman and Gert Barbian is co-chairman of the food booth. Bernadette Cisewski is chairman of the rides. Members are urged to help with our auxiliary booths. On June 3l the auxiliary held its social night and bake sale which was a very big success. Daisy Smith, president, thanked every one who helped. Ethel Hagberg is on the sick list. It would be nice for each of us to send a card to cheer her. Hope to see you at the next meeting June 22. Sunnyside Estaies ASK ASSISTANCE FOR FOURTH OF JULY PICNIC by Lois Anderson It s just two short weeks until the fourth of July picnic. Have you volunteered to help the committee yet? They can use all the help you can give them, call John Mischke or any of the other workers and help make our picnic a success. Weekend Trip Red and Maryy Davis spent an enjoyable' but hectic weekend when they motored to Cincinnati for christening ceremonies of Mary's new nephew of that city. Her mom and dad and brother made the trip with them for the occasion. Day Camp Last Thursday and Friday yours truly attended a course for counselors to help out with the .Girl Scouts and Brownies day camp in July. What fun, learning how to rough it the, right way and get down to nature. This was a pleasant experience as well as a helpful one the week promises to be loads of fun. Omission In listing the June graduates of Sunnyside Estates a couple of weeks ago we neglected to mention one young man. Cub Scouts Of this area closed the year of scouting with their annual Pow-W'ow in McHenry on June 6. Dressed as Indians, the cubbers of P^ck 362, sat around their individual fires, from which the main council fire was lighted by the graduates of the j evening. The boys of den 8 repj resented the Iroquois - tribe (while they participated in the festivities. During the course of the evening's presentations Bill Davis received his Bear Badge. Finola, 13, Chicago, was named Illinois' champion teenage historian. His S100 Harry E.
