HOLD OPEN HOUSE DURING WEEK AT FARMERS' CO-OP Open house is being held at the McHenry County Farmers Co-op. in McHenry this week in order to acquaint the public with their new line of Purina Chows and products. There will be free gifts and favors given. The adc^ion of the new line is expected to be of interest to dairymen, poultry raisers and livestock feeders. William Pictor, former MCHS agriculture instructor and now a representative of the- company, is cooperating with the Farmers Co-op, in making plans for a special grand opening, probably in August. CAMP LOWDEN OPENED SEASON SUNDAY, JUNE 21 Camp Lowden, operated by the Blackhawk Ajrea Council, Inc., Boy Scouts of America, opened its eighteenth annual season Sunday, June 21, for seven weekly periods. More than 1,500 Bov" Scouts and Explorer Scouts are expected to attend from all units in the six-county area. The camp program will emphasize all phases of outdoor living in addition to special activities designed to impart skills. As usual, it is expected that the swimming pool and the rifle and archery ranges will be-tthe most sought after, activities. The camp recently received an outdoor type public address system as a gift from Mr. and Mrs. John Bowman of- Sterling. It is now possible to send bugle calls and music over a three mile radius. j The Council, aware of "its ; responsibility to develop the .whole boy, has put special emphasis this year on opportunity for the boy to observe his home religious training. Hoffman announced that the Civil Service commission will conduct an examination on Monday, July 13, for candidates interested in entering the U. S. Military Academy at West Point, U. S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, U. S. Air Force Academy, Denver, Colo., or the U. S. Merchant Marine academy at Kings Point, New York, for the academic year commencing July, 1960. •The central examining point for the 14th Congressional district is Aurora, examinations commencing at 8:30 a m. local time. Candidates who do not expect to be at their place of residence on that day will be accorded an opportunity to participate in the examination at the town or city nearest their temporary address where the commission holds its regular civil service examinations. Therefore, it is imperative that all candidates keep Rep. Hoffman's office informed as to their current address.
