In conjunction with the carnival, the fireworks display will be held the evening of the fourth. Lois Weeks, past commander of the Wonder Lake post has recently been elected as dyector of the 20 et 4 Echelon m>. 12. This organization is ! composed exclusively of wom- ' en Legionnaires and covers an area of four counties. The second division conven- , tion will be held in Marengo July 12. Wonder Lake's rifle squad ' under the direction of Robert Kiddell will take part in the parade scheduled for 2 , p.m.- This will be one of the j digest parades ever to be held ; in McHenry County, so if you are a lover of parades, here is : your chance to see a good one. The squad will also participate in the VJ Day parade in Woodstock in July. Legionnaires wishing to march in these parades are urged to contact Robert Kiddell immediately. Annual Meeting Property owners of Wcmder Center subdivision will nold their annual meeting Sunday, June 28, at 11 a.m. at the north beach. Rummage Sale Final plans were made for the rummage and bake sale to be conducted by the McHenry County Association for Retarded Children at their regular meeting Tuesday night. The fund raising event will be held at the former Christ the King church basement on Saturday, June 27, from 10 to 5. Additional rummage is still welcomed by the group and may be brought to the church, or will be picked up if vou call W. L. 4712 or W. L. 2713. The Highland Shores rescue squad will inherit the "loot" at the end of the sale. Legion Auxiliary News A\t the June 18 meeting of the American Legion auxiliary, • the following women were elected to carry on the work of the Legion Auxiliary for the coming year. President, Amanda Donash; 1st vice-president, Marion Cannon; 2nd vicepresident, Lois Weeks; treasurer, Leoda Freund; sergeanrat- arms^Nancy Elbersen; chaplain, Lorraine Stahl; and histJJ- ian, Marian Ruzicka. Jerre Elbersen was appointed secretary by the incoming president, who incidently is Jerre's mother. Installation of officers will be held in August. The auxiliary sponsored rummage sale will be held July 3 at Christ the King church hall. All proceeds of this sale will be used to further the programs of the Legion auxiliary, s^h as rehabilitation and child welfare. The ladies will also take over the kitchen booth at the Legion carnival on July 3, 4 and 5, at the Indian Ridge beach. The auxiliary extends thanks to all those who worked on Poppy Day. 700 poppies were sold in the Lake area. The unit appreciates the support of the residents who purchased their j^jpies from the local auxiliary, thereby giving the credit to the Wonder Lake unit. Christening Stephen Jerry Kotyza. son of Richard and Joyce Kline Kotyza, was baptized Sunday, June 14, at Christ the King church, by Rev. Raymond Hubers. Godparents are Joanne Kline and I^bert Hester. Christ The King Church News The Cathoiic student center at DeKalb is holding open house on June 27, and all ladies are invited to come. A buffet lunch will be served between 11 and 2 each day, and a short tour of the Newman house and of the Northern Illinois campus is planned. For reservations please contact Mrs. Charles Sullivan, W. L. 5991. Bible Church News Rev. Richard Wright is spending the week in northern Wisconsin attending a series of meetings. During his absence Sunday morning, Mr. Mason will speak during both morning services. Robert Repke, who is leaving soon to continue his studies in the ministry will be present for the evening service. A successful Ladies Missionary Guild picnic was held at Woodstock city park June 16. The families of the ladies enjoyed a lovely open air meeting which included special music, a skit presented by the Loshboughs on the every-day problems of their life in Africa, and a brief message by the pastor. Games played in the afternoon and a family style picnic supper, helped make the occasion a success. Nativity Lutheran Church News A guest pastor. Rev. Herbert Peterson, will conduct the worship and preach at both services Sunday, June 28. He is pastor of Grace Lutheran fhurch in Villa Park. Pastor Schroeder will be exchanging pulpits with Pastor Peterson on this day. All families in the church are welcome to attend the picnic and outing at Twin Lakes June 28. sponsored by the Couples Club of the church. The picnic begins at noon and overyone will bring his own table service and food for lunch and dinner. Maps and trail markers are being provided. Rescue Sauad Continues Good Work Over the weekend the High- Baby Girl Spielman Casper, Wyo., is the birth place of little Karen Spielman, daughter of Jo-Ann and Elmer Spielman who didn't wait for her mother to get back to Wonder Lake from her western trip. The baby was born at 7:52 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, weighing 6 lbs. 2Va oz. Her three grandparents are Mrs. Helen Reuter, Mrs. Ethel Schladweiler, and Elmer Spielman, Sr. land Shores rescue squad answered two calls, one of as pneumonia patient and the other a-sChild severely bitten by a dog, pointing up the great need for rescue service in the Highland Shore s-Greenwood area which has been in evidence since the inception of the squad. Yacht Club News The warm-up race which the Wonder Lake Yacht club had scheduled for last Sunday was called off and the members spent the weekend continuing with the rebuilding of the shelter on the island repairing the damage done by the high winds last winter. The first race will be sailed Sunday, June 28, starting at 10:30 a.m. New bouys have beeh put out marking the course. These are not to be used to anchor any craft, however. Also worth mentioning in the "rules of the road" is that sailboats have the rights-of-way over all other craft. The Yacht club would like to encourage sailing among the young people of the community and is working on means of promoting races between "anyone who has a sail". The bus will leave Wonder Center at the Standard station at 9:30 a.m. and proceed south to Wooded Shores along the school route, picking up the girls at the regular stops. Returning to the Standard station, the bus will travel north on Wonder Lake Drive to Oak street turning right to the county blacktop. Turning left, the bus will proceed north to the Rod and Gun club grounds. The return trip route will be exactly reversed. The girls are asked to be at the stops ahead of time. Gasoline Fire A healthy respect for the dangers of gasoline fires was brought about by a near tragic accident in the back yard of the Harry Benson home in Shore Hills Monday about midnight. Thirteen year old Wayne Benson and his friend, Donald Carbon were camping out, using an improvised gasoline burning heater. Trouble came when the boys tried to re-fuel the heater, making a fire which caused deep second degree burns on the face and arm of young Benson. He is a patient at Memorial hospital where he will be confined for two weeks. Dorothy McEachren, Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Anne Nagel. Library Open July 1 The Harrison school library will be open from 10 to. noon Wednesday, July 1 and eVery Wednesday there-after thrdugh out the summer. Ail children at the Lake six years old or older, are welcome to borrow* books to take home. The library will not be used as a reading room, however. Children who are not in school district No. 36, must have permission of a parent to take out books. Tenth Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. William Fiala, Jr., celebrated their tenth anniversary with an open house for forty relatives, friends and neighbors from Wonder Lake and McHenry Saturday, June 20, at their home. As Barbara and Bill opened their gifts, a permanent record was made with' a movie camera. Highlight of the gift giving, was the presentation of an old dilapitated row boat which was said to be the one the couple made use of in their courtship. Japanese lanterns festooned the patio which was used for (iancing and a midnight buffet lunch was served. The party also was the occasion for celebrating Jim LaGreca's birthda v. Redmans have returned from a Irip to Clarksville, Tenn., where they attended the graduation of nephew (and class president) Dean Hargis from Austin Peay State college. Dean's northern friends will be .interested to know he has accepted the assistant coach post at the Panama City, Fla., high school for next fall. As a switch on Dean, Ruth plans to spend her winters visiting him in Florida for a while. The visit was a double celebration the other event being the wedding of Dean's sister, Joyce, to Larry Neblett. Happy anniversary to Stan and Harriette Wilson who celebrated their fourteenth on June 2. Daughter, Ruthie, took mom (complete with corsage) and dad to dinner at Williams Bay for the occasion. Ruth is currently spending a week in the city visiting Uncle Paul Irwin there. A Happy Birthday to John Kocan of Wonder Center who will be 31 again? June 27. Thanks to Girl Scouts Judy Knackstedt and Kathy Pederson who took care of the children of mothers enrolled in the training course for day camp. The girls volunteered their services. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Davidson who are grandparents now. Lyle and Irene Davidson are parents of a daughter born at Valparaiso, Ind., May 28. They have named the baby Julie Lynn.
