Thursday, June 25. 1959 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALEH McCullom Lake 'BUSY MEETING CONDUCTED BY 'BOARD MEMBERS Eve Levesque During the continuation of the pillage board meeting of Jun98--held June 15, in the beachhouse--trustee Art Stuhlfeier withdrew his challenge to president, J. R. Levesque of his right to appoint heads of committees within the village board. Sealing and road repair of specified streets within _the village limits will commence in the near future. Aopr (N1<(W9336 > dealing with alloca tion of village funds for fiscal year '59-'60--was approved by the board and published in last week's Plaindealer. The nuisance ordinance was discussed further and will be held for approval until the ne^t regularly scheduled meeting which was held on Monday of this week. meeting jwhich covered twcwonsecutivev Mondays was formally adjourned. Your Co-Operatton, Please! With the 4th of July advancing with an alraming rate, it comes to mind that the paper will be published on Wednesday of next week. For this reason, copy to this reporter (tel. No. .2171) must be in by Frittoy noon. No doubt, all kinS of exciting things have been happening this week. How about letting your neighbors share your joy and -or other feelings? Pick up the phone now and give us the facts. Much thanks. You've been "swell" in the past-- keep it up!! * Gals Will Meet . Tu» last meeting of the Ladies^ of the Lake prior to summer adjournment will be held tonight (Thursday) in the beachhouse. Time--8 p.m. Several important subjects to be discussed and disposed of--one way or another. Sure would be nice to see some of the newladies in the village present. All very welcome. Consider this a personal invitation! Key Case Found A black leather key case containing two General Motors keys and one for a Ford was turned in to police officer Bill Reid at the beach during the recent drowning episode. Owner may have same by identifying the case and it can be picked up at the home of officer Jack Schlofner. ^ "I'm Flabbergasted" It the direct quote which emanated from the lips of Betty Murray when she walked into the surprise "vacation" party held for her at the home of Mrs. Marie Howe on Wednesday, June 17. Betty was lured into attending when notified that it was to be in honor of Wilma Zody's birthday. Betty^ ias been very ill off and on--for quite some time and the gals frstrfecl this would bolster her morale a bit. Seems to have succeeded. She and hubby Larry took off on Saturday for a flying jaunt to the state of Washington where her relatives reside. The women who were present to pay homage included hostess Marie Howe, Elsie Nel- Katie Lennert, Ingeoorg Olsen, Mary Kantorski, Abby Berry, Bet t y Hammerstein (and wee son), Edith Brendle, Louise Hammerstein (sticking rigidly to her diet), Mardy Lorch, Kathv Schlitt, Betty Poledna, Wilma Zody, Laura Slater, Elizabeth. Reiter, "Petey" Schmidt, Anna Buschl'eld, Verna Schlofner, and this reporter. Others invited but unable to attend were Mickey Murray, Pearl Padelford, Emma Pyritz, Lena Eckhardt, Ethel Fox, and Lil Ringelstetter. Betty was presented with a packet of "loot" to be used as her fancy dictated! The enormous strawberry shortcake covered with calorie laden whip cream was baked by Lois Parenti. The lad was rushed to McHenry hospital for immediate attention and was put in cast. As if that wasn't bad enough, mother Morris had a bit of a smashup with the brand new station wagon and that will require repairs. "Never rains--but it pours!" Quite a story behind it--and it's all husband Don's fault!. . . . . Big thrill for Laura Meyers who had to buy a complete new wardrobe. She went on a diet--stuck to it-- and is now enjoying the rewards! Good going, pal Hugh and Jean McDonald journeyed to Wrigley Field last Tuesday (a week ago) together with otner members of the Tavern Owner's association. They chartered three busies for the event. Cold weather and the Cubs losing, put the damper on their enthusiasm. "Mac" should know better than to attend these games. Sunnyside Estates Inoculate Dogs Against Rabies by Lois Anderson That winds up another edition of your local "newsweek". Don't forget that early deadline for next week. Call me now at 2171! Thanks. As a service to residents with dogs, last year a committee arranged for a veternarian to come to Sunnyside Estates to inoculate our pets against rabies. It is hoped that this can be done again this year and a coiiimiiiee is working on the arrangements. They are trying to determine approximately how many dog owners will avail themselves of this service and other information they will need. Date j and fee have not yet been set ; but we will keep you posted. Roads j By now the roads should be [completed in the subdivision; j isn't the absence of dust a I pleasure? Our investment now I is a wise one, not only for the j dust abatement, but more important, the need for maintenance at this time to keep our roads in good condition. We will not only appreciate them this summer but most assuredly in the winter and spring during the big thaw. If you have spent even one spring here you know how troublesome a rutty, muddy road can be. Incidentally, the kids appreciate the improvement too, it's real "keen" for bike riding. After all the children left it wks time to prepare for Alan's grown-up party. Helping him celebrate were Bud's mom and dad, Mr. and Mrs. B. Kennebeck and his aunt. Miss Alvina j Schumacher of Johnsburg. his I sister and, her husband, Mr. | and Mrs. R. Gaylord and sons ! of Woodstock; Carol's folks, ; Mr. and Mrs. Gamperl and her • brothers Don and Bob and ; their wives, and the baby of the group, Carol's nephew, all of Chicago. All in all we'd say j Alan had a very busy th ' birthday. of the carnival this weekend in Johnsburg sponsored by the C o m m u n i t y c l u b on t h e i r grounds. RABIES IX DOGS Rabies in dogs has reached an all-time low with only three cases reported so far this year from the dog population of 700,000. But dog owners were warned last week by Stillman Stanard. director of the State Department of Agriculture, not to be complacent and forget to have their pets vaccinated to keep the disease under control. Birthdays j Our list picked up some thjs i week. On June 25 (toothless) Mike Anderson .will celebrate , number 7. Two birthdays in i one family only tWo days apart : will be celebrated this week by | Kandy Lasnek who will be one j on June 26 and her big brother, j Bobby, who will be all of three ion June 28. Also on June 26, i Jerome Olsen marks off an- ! other year while young. Steve | Major greets birthday number eighteen on June 30. "Happy J birthday every one". | Anniversaries | Congratulations to several of I our young couples who are celebrating anniversaries this i week. Don and Christine Fail, i number twelve on June 28. j Laird and Gladys Kayler, seventeen on June 30 and on the j same day Flo and Barbara Jes- | ski will celebrate fourteen i years. Birthday Party For his third birthday, Alan Kennebeck played host at his first children's party in his honor. Prizes, games and goodies in abundance were happi- ! ly enjoyed by Kasey Ander- ' son. Kelly Bute, Mark Davis, Donna Frisby, Allan's sister, I Karen, A!fy May of Sunnyside, : Terry and Laurie Radtke, and Donnie Rose. Alan's uncle, nine year old Ritchie Gamperl of j Sunnyside and Chicago helped I Carol with-the festivities.
