TWO BREAK-INS ARE INVESTIGATED IN McHENRY AREA Two break-ins were investigated this past week by the sheriff's office. At the Nick Justen service station on Rt. 120, near Eastwood Manor, the lock on the front door was torn off and entrance gained to the office. Seventeen tires valued at about $400 were taken. Paul Smith of Johnsburg, who works for a tree surgery company, reported that his truck, parked near a service station in that community, was broken injo' and power saws, a generator and other equipment stolen. Her husband, William died in 1937 and she was preceded in death by two children, Mary, who died at birth, and Miles, who passed away in childhood. Mrs. Bacon was one of the few mothers in the area who had sons in both World Wars, two having served in each. The body rests at the Peter M. Justen funeral home until Thursday at 3:30 p.m. when last rites will be conducted from the Methodist church, followed by burial' in Woodland cemetery. The council is studying comparative costs, but it appears that a radio will be installed in the city hall, with an operator on duty to receive and relay calls. PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS Physical examinatiions for fifth grade pupils in all McHenry schools will be conducted at Landmark school from 8:30 to 11 a.m. on Aug. 26. Similar examinations for all freshmen boys and athletes in any sport will be held in the nurse's room of the high school during the same hours on Aug. 28. Karl F. Knauer, 52, of Mc- Cullom Lake who played with prominent dance bands in the country for many years, died of a heart attack while visiting friends in Wonder - Lake Friday morning, July 31. He complained of sudden pain and is reported to have "blacked out". The Wonder Lake rescue squad was summoned and he was revived for a time after being administered oxygen. His wife, Bernice,» was summoned from her place of employment in Johnsburg and was with her husband when he died. The deceased was born Sept. 25. 1906, in Saginaw, Mich. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Knauer was a member of the American Federation of Musicians, and was also affiliated with the Moose in Chicago, St. Cecelia's Lodge, A.F. & A.M., and was a member of the Medinah Temple Shriners. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Karl, Jr.. of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Rev. Hans F. Knauer, of Saginaw, a minister in the Lutheran church; and one sister, Frieda Craig, of Ft. Wayne, Ind. , The body was taken to the George Justen & Son funeral home, where it remained until Sunday morning, when it was removed to a chapel in Chicago. Services were held Monday afternoon, with interment in Ridgewood cemetery, Des- Plaines.
