Besides keeping a wary eye for radar or police cars, the driver who hopes to get away with 65 miles per hour in a 55-mile-an-hour zone also needs to watch overhead. Some staes and counties are using planes or helicopters to check auio speeds. Wnen the flying patrolman spots a driver who is going too fast, he radios a feiiow officer in a car. The earth-bound policeman nabs the offender. Marked distances on the roads are used to check vehicle speeds from the air. In several states they use simple cross- bar markers on the pavement that are-no^ apt to be noticed by motorists.
