Swimming Party For "Bluebirds" The Norbert Mau^h home pool was the setting for a swimming party, followed by a picnic, held last Thursday for the '•Bluebirds", a Little League team sponsored by Tonyan Construction company. .Attendirg were Mr. and Mrs. Mauch and sons. McHgi NRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, August 20, Stewart-Dowell Vows Exchanged McHenry friends will be, interested to learn of the nuptial rite last Saturday, Aug. 15, in Truth Lutheran church, Detroit, Mlchi., uniting Miss Elizabeth L. Stewart of that city and Charles Dwight Dowell, son of Mr. arid Mrs. Clyde Dowell of. McHenry. The bride was attended by Mrs. Dolores Nicholson as matron of honor and by Miss Genie DubeCk aftd Miss Mary Lee Hughes as bridesmaids. Boyd Dowell of Ringwood served as best man for his brother and Richard Hiller and Floyd Ortega were groomsmen. A reception followed the ceremony at Hillcrest Country club in Detroit for 200 guests. Later, the couple left on a week's trip through Michigan, after which they will reside in Spartan Village. The bride graduated in 1958 from Michigan State university and will teach next year in Lansing. The bridegroom is a McHenry high school graduate and is now a senior at Michigan State university. OBITUARIES Public Invited To Safety Movie A Qije-hour color movie, "Slaughter on the Highways", will be shown at Veterans Acres at 8:15 o'clock on Tuesday. Aug. '25. The public is invited to attend this free movie. Steve Bronkoca, superintendent of the Crystal Lake parks, is helping to arrange the program, with Jim Seymour as narrator. Any donations will go to the cerebral palsy fund. Tell Engagement Of Lillie Car tan Mrs. Lillie Duncan Cartan of Lakemoor announces the engagement of her daughter, Susan Diane, to Mr. Allen Harrop of Palatine, 111., and Munising, Mich. Miss Cartan is a 1959 graduate of the McHenry high school and is employed in Mundelein. Her fiance is employed in Arlington Heights. A September wedding is planned. BERT STOVER Bert A. Stover, 62, of Chicago, died last Saturday afternoon, Aug. 15, of a heart attack while measuring his lot in Wonder Lake for a new home. The deceased was born May 26, 1897, in Whiting, Ind., and was employed by the Tian Abrasive Co., in Chicago. He was a veteran of World War I. Mr. Stover is survived by his widow, Elsie. The body was removed from the Peter M. Justen & Son funeral home to Kenny Brothers chapel in Chicago, where services were held Tuesday afternoon. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery. THOMAS MORAN Thomas Moran, 67, of Elmhurst, father of Mrs. Monica Wright of McHenry, died Aug. 17 in Elmhursi hospital. Services were held Wednesday morning at Queen of Heaven church, followed by burial in the church cemetery. OBSERVATION The only item never found in a glove compartment is a pair of gloves. ^ A man can cash in good resolutions if he keeps them enough to earn dividents. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Beckenbaugh and daughter, Anit^, have returned from a vacation at Mackinac Island, where the former attended an insurance company convention. Enroute home, they visited in the Fred Chase home in Midland, Mich. Mrs. Chase and children, David, Fred, Daniel and Susan, accompanied them home for a few weeks visit with relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. Granger Smith of Elgin, grdndson, Jess Smith, of CarnAel, Calif., Miss Villa Smith of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Alexander of Hebron were dinner guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Johnson Thursday evening. James Hall, who is attending General Motors Institute in Flint, Mich., is a guest of his mother, Mrs. Elaine Hall and sister Carolyn Hall, of rural McHenry, for three weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lawrence of Chicago spent the weekend in the Donald Givens home. Mr and Mrs. John Shay spent a few days the past week at the Dells of Wisconsin. Mrs. Kathryn Conway and Miss Genevieve Knox visited their niece, Mrs. Robert Saelens, and family at St: Charles Wednesday of last week. A group of old friends renewed acquaintance at a luncheon at the McHenry Country Club Thursday and later adjourned to the home of Miss Genevieve Knox for an afternoon of visiting. Mrs. Joseph Sutton, Mrs. A. D. Foley and Mrs. Kathryn Conway of McHenry. Suzanne and Mary Beth Ekstrom of Elgin spent the past week with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Stoffel. Mr. and Mrs. George Binder of Morton Grove were Sunday visitors in the Burt Bienapfl home. Miss Genevieve Knox spent a few days this week as the guest of Mrs. Margaret Rasmussen. in Chicago, where Miss Leta Clark joined them for a 4dys'v visit.. Freund were visitors at Holy Hill Saturday and later called on the latter's sisters, Sisters M. Arcadia and Sister M. Ildefons, at St. Joseph's convent, Campbellsport, Wis. The Lloyd Whiting family of Elgin called on McHenry relatives Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bienapfl returned Saturday from a few day's vacation spent with the Robert Brugger family at the latter's iiottage at Three Lakes, Wis. 1 -I Mr. and Mr^SJoseph Muska left Monday to spend a few weeks at their newly built home on Lake Catherine, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Bacon, daughter, v^Iarilyn, and son, John, who spent a week here, where they were called by the critical illness and death of his mother. Mrs. Zeha Bacon, returned to their home in Yardville, N.J. last week. The Donald and Ralph Freund families and Richard Frett family of Crystal Lake were Sunday visitors in the home of Mrs. A. P. FreUnd. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Weber have returned from a three week's 4rip to California, where they visited their son, S. M. Bill Weber, who was on shore leave, and spent some time with their daughter, Mrs. Thomas Murphy, and family in San Diego, where they made the acquaintance of their new grandson, Shaun Patrick Murphy. The Murphy family expects to return to McHenry "tefljrly next month, as Mr. MurphK who is with the Navy, is being, transferred to Great Lakes. The Webers were accompanied to California by their niece, Miss Cathy Conway, who spent, the time with her sister, Mrs. Larry Kopp, in Riverside, and did much sight-seeing while there. Mrs. Harvey Darrim of Kenosha, Wis., spent a few days in the Bacon home. On Sunday she and her brother, Bob Bacon, visited in Galesburg. Mrs. Velma Douglas spent a fevw days this weejk with relatives in Dodgeville, Wis. Edward Dwyer of Chicago spent the weekend with his sister, Mrs. Walter Wtush.
