Numerous improvements in the village can be chalked yp to this group of civic-mind- <ed and energetic women, including the gate signs (bigger and better than the original ones; have you noticed) [street signs, and the pier for children, to name a few. The women will meet, tonight (Thursday) at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. Every lady in the community is cordially invited to attend a meeting. If you just moved to the village this summer, why not drop in and meet your neighbors? You are due for a nice surprise. Consider this a personal invitation from the officers of the Ladies of Lake!! Definitely in Second With a Chance for First! The McCullom Lake softball team established themselves in second place by defeating Old Bridge by a score of 12-2. Last Thursday night they went down in defeat to Hettermann's by 12 runs to 5 for our fellows. However, this was a best of 4|bee--series, and last Tuesday, they were again scheduled to meet Hettermann's on the diamond. If they were defeated-- that is the end. On the other hand, if they managed to come up with a victory, they will have ONE more ihance tonight to prove themselves. Here's hoping !! A dinner will be held either ^ the end of September or swnetime in October at which time the trophies will be awarded. More details when they are available. The Nelsons acquired the darling little "beastie" on their recent trip to Minneapolis, from a friend of Earl's. At first, the. owner refused to part with the pup, because of his tremendous potential as a show dog. However, sons, Ken and Don. produced such crest- fallen faces, the poor fellow was forced to'submit. Happier boys you have never seen. The Chase Koches are green with envy and mean to have him by fair means or foul! While in Minnesota, Earl met relatives he had not seen for thirty-two years and was thrilled to introduce his lovin' Elma and family. Their journey topk them through the straits of Mackinac, the sights of the Island .and on down the coast of Lake Michigan to Battle Creek where they wound up their trip with a visit to the brothers Nelsons, Cliff and Don and families. A glorious end to a wonderful summer. Village Board The elected and appointed officials of the village will meet Monday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. Swimming Again -- Weather , Permitting With '"operation--fish removal" successfully completed, the lake is once again open for swimming and bathing, providing mama approves, (and the weather co-operates!) The official reports from the Illinois Department of Conservation have not come in as yet, but the confirmation of restocking the lake has been received. In early October, the lake will be re-stocked with 4,000 fingerling bass and 4,000 fingerling blue gills which should assure of some mighty fine fishing in the spring of '61. Oh yes, one interesting item --the largest fish (a carp) removed from the waters tipped the scales at a healthy 20 pounds! It was -"herded" in at Lakeland Park! The drive for funds for the McCullom Lake Sportsmen's club got under way at the beginning of the week. In the Land of Oil Wells! Sure had planned on one of them for a souvenir, but Marge Olsen and her family had no way to transport same. On her recent trip back to the old homestead in Hoisington, Kansas, Mrs. Olsen and youngslfe Tom, Ted and li'l Margie, drove ihroygh the fabulous oil well icountry of Oklahoma! where even the poor 'sod farmers have a cylinder going in the back yartf. During their stay. Marge communed with mother, Mrs. Mary Rziha, two brothers and two sisters. On their return journey, they drove straight through--800 miles-- and arrived home shortly after midnight. Husband and father, Ole, who was "holding down the fort" was tickled to relinquish his household chores to the gal with more capabilities! The Larder is Re-Stocked And no better place to do it than on a farm, so discovered Lil Ringelstetter and sons when they returned to Lil's home in Columbus, Wis. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Walasek, have discovered the "tricks of the trade" and the gal arrived home loaded down with freshly picked peppers, squash, and other goodies. Johnny chased the chickens, as usual, and Tom was grandpa's helper. Big thrill for Lil was a gift of-a portable sewing machine-- compliments of her ever lovin' Mark! on her arrival home. Family Reunion The Labor Day weekend held thrills galore for May and Butch Kennenberg, when tiiey -motored to Joliet, which was. the half-way mark for the family. A tribe of 40-50 of May's immediate family (children, grand, and great-grand) congregated in the beautiful park in that city for an old fashioned cook-out and fun. Cause for celebratidin also was the Kennenbergs' twenty-first wedding anniversary on Friday, Sept. 4. Deepest Sympathy To Mrs. Betty Krickl on the recent passing of her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Rudin who died in Upland, Calif. The Rudins were among the early settlers of McCullom Lake and for many years, resided in the home now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Schlofnei". The Krickls lived right next door, and this reporter can remember the early days when daughter, Nancy, was a fledgling and son. Bob, was still growing up. These two have . Summer Sojourn The Theodor Olsens and daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Willard Schultz, spent a summer's end vacation , in Crivets, Wis. Ma and Pa Olsen arrived home on Thursday but the Schultzes remained until the weekend. Plenty of fishing and swimming for the younger family, but Mama Olsen sat in the sun and rested. The fishermen (including Lynne) supplied the table with plenty of piscatorial delights.
