They had the almost un- ! believable score of 120 for 36 ! holes. If the Cubs could only play baseball the way their j fans can play golf they would win the pennant every year. The Past Presidents' tourney j was won by Ed Buss as he I edged Tom Evans in the finals. Next Sunday will be a tournnment called the' cheaters tourney. I don't know anything about it, but if it has anything to. do with the name I will be a strong contender. I. .Sunday, Sept. 20. will be the • annual men's-ladies outing. If | you wish to play in the above j please sign the sheet in the : locker room before Sept. 18. i The Calcutta will be run on Sunday, Sept. 27. We certainly could not get along without it. The life sav- ! ing equipment--the volunteer | firemene of McHenry and most other small towns-- the latest i firefighting equipment and the ' "chief" co-ordinating all of : these assets to make life safer | and more carefree. How about the police sta- ' tion? Is this the rfiost import- | ant building in town The po- \ lice department is also indis- | pensable. Be the town large or small, police services are vital. In a, small town" the police do ] much more than fight crime. They, too, save lives. They keep the peace so that the rest , of us can enjoy country or suburban living. Here too, the "chief" and his men have numerous tasks that must be coordinated to be effective. If we were touring McHenry, we would soon arrive at the building we believe to be the most important building in town. That building is the hospital. The fire department and the police department both need and use the hospital frequent- 'v' 9ur McHenry hospital is conveniently located in the heart of .the city within easy access of main streets and ! highways. This fact alone can 'save lives when winter storms tie up §0 many country roads. Since its establishment in 1956, the McHenry hospital has offered its services to all in the McHenry area, both in emergency or in regular need. With "the advent of faster enrs and better roads tempting Ihe driver to "step on it", the need for larger and better hospitals in the rural areas is as important as life itself. The founders of the McHen- I ry hospital recognized this ; need when they established the hospital. They tried to make it i as complete as possible. They jequipped it with the most modl ern equipment possible. They • engaged the services of cap- ' able doctors, nurses and other i personnel. But just as our local 1 schools have found it necessary to add and expand as the ,town grew, so has the police and the fire departments. The hospital, too, is stretching itself to accommodate more patients. Just recently. the office space was consolidated to make room for three more hospital beds. CARD OF THANKS I would like to thank all my friends for their kindnesses, rememberances and prayers during my recent confinement in the hospital and at home.
