Weston Stevens, pastor of the Congregational church, Woodstock, will show slides and talk on Russia and Berlin (east and west) at the Monday, Oct. 12, meeting of the McHenry Kiwanis club, to be held at the Legion home. Rev. Stevens' talk promises to be most interesting, since he saw various areas and exhibits while abroad. He will speak at 12:50 and anyone interested is invited to attend. County Educators To "Get Acquainted" On Thursday evening, Oct. 8. about 250 teachers and administrators of the M c H e n r y County Education association will attend their annual getacquainted dinner at the Clarence Olson school in Woodstock. It will be a smorgasbord dinner beginning at 6:30 p.rr. Marvin Wenck. a teacher in the Harrison school at Wonder Lake, is president of the county association. Bob and Carlyn Galati of Chicago will present a prografi of European folk dances. Each dance is performed in colorful native costumes, with music which has been recorded in thv a r i o u s European c o u n t r i e s . AM interesting story about each dfince is told beforehand. Interesting Program For Woman's Club An interesting program is planned for th^> McHenry Woman's club on Friday, Oct. 9, at the Legion home, including vocal numbers by Mrs. Calvin Vyduna and a cooking demonstration by Jean Cooney, entitled "Three to get Ready ". The program will take place at 2 p.m.. preceded by the regular business meeting at 1:30. The committee in charge includes Mrs. C. W. ALAN MEYER St. Peter's church at Spring Grove was the scene of a love- 'y wedding on Saturday, Oct. 3. at 11 a m., when Miss Rosemarie Lord, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I.r.Vern Lord of Crystal Lake, became the bride of Mr. A'an Meyer, son of Mr. ind Mrs. Anton Meyer of Spring Grove. Rev. John Daleiden officiated at the ceremony. Given in marriage by her fa- 'her, the bride was lovely in a gown of white nylon chiffon •>ver nylon taffeta. The bodice featured lacy pleats and short, puff sleeves. Two nylon panels in back were shirred at the neck and extended to the hemline. Her tiara of seed pearls held a fingertip veil of silk illusion. She carried a bouquet of white carnations, wood rose and fern. Acting as maid of Hbnor, Miss Betty Meyer, sister of the groom, wore a ballerina length gown of mint green nylon taffeta, fashioned with an emerald cummerfcand. She wore a matching hat with circle veil, ^nd slippers to match. Her Howers were yellow carna tions, wood rose and fern. Bridesmaids were Miss Joan Meyer, sister of the groom, and Miss Julie Lord, sister of the bride. Their gowns, accessories and flowers were the same as those worn by the maid of honor. Harvey Miller served as best man and groomsmen were Terry Miller and James Lord. Soloist for the wedding was Mrs. Betty Floer. Both mothers chose blue dresses, with accessories to match, and both had white orchid corsages. A reception at 6 o'clock was held in the church hall, with about 200 guests in attendance. Following a short honeymoon, the newlyweds will make their home in Rockford. The bride is a graduate nurse, following training in St Anthony's hospital, Rockford. Members of the McHenry Garden club had a very busy schedule last Tuesday at their regular monthly meeting. The final date has been set for the 1960 Garden club show. The club urges every interested person in this area to mark June 14, 1960, on their calendar. Plan to enter and atiend this event. Thev told of hearing Wallace Atkinson sneak on the progress heing made on the "Tollway Commission Beautification Program". He is the landscape architect in charge of this ereat nlnn. He stated that lowest bids had been accepted, but not at a sacrifice of quality. "Love of Natural Beauty Comes First" will be the years conservation slogan throughout the state for 1960. This was announced at the recent Chicago meeting. The local daraen Club will attemnt to carry out this theme in all wys possible The members of this group are also putting stress on Ar bor Day. Freund of McHenry in a nuptial service solemnized at St. Mary's Catholic church. A boom in volunteer hospital service throughout the state has reached a new high, according to the Illinois Hospital association, which announced that the total membership of 178 women's auxiliaries is now 80,000, an all-time record. The ladies raised more than $2 million last year for their hospitals, donated $500,000 in equipment, gave 200 scholarships in nursing, operated 105 gift shops and conducted programs to place volunteers as nurses aides in 37 hospitals. Other projects to help hospitals meet operating deficits included the staging of 34 fashion shows and 35 dances. How to top these efforts in the year ahead will be explored by several hundred auxiliary presidents and other's who are expected to attend a two-day conference and tenth anniversary celebration of the , Women's Hospital auxiliaries of the IHA, to be held in Peoria Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 28-29. Mrs. Harry Stinespring, Jr., of McHenry, chairman of the second district is listed among the speakers, workshop leaders and panelists scheduled to participate in the two-day conference. Mrs. F. W. Bond, president of the local auxiliary, will also attend.
