1 T& ursday, October 15, 1959 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER ( Pisiakee Highlands ASSOCIATION 4 CONDUCTS BUSY ' OCTOBER MEETING Hazel Morley Hy 7 SS20 Kay Sielisch Hy 7 S414 Page Fifteen £ ie association meeting was held on Oct. 7 at the barn. The meeting was called to order by President McCreery at 8:10 •p.m. Roll call of officers was taken and all were present. Minutes of the last meeting and the treasurer's report were read and approved. New business: Mr. McCreery ancjjOthers have been searching foi^Jthe charter, in vain. He wrote to the Secretary of State for information. Copies will be obtained. Business sessions will be conducted within one hour when possible. A discussion was held concerning the dues on vacant lots. A motion was made, seconded and passed, to change the dues from $15 to $5 per yefjfc for each vacant lot. AnotfW* motion was made and seconded that no dues be charged for one vacant lot per owner if it adjoins a lot containing a dwelling belonging to the same member of the association. This will be voted upon at the November meeting. Wayne Taylor gave a short talk concerning an organizationthat the young men hope to \Aart in our community. It would be called the Pistakee Highlands Safety Unit. They seem to have the co-operation of the JoHnsburg Rescue Squad, the Fox Lake Rescue Squad and the police. The purpose of this unit would be to work with the rescue squads and police, dividing the Highlands into four sections, and to aid th^jQ in specific assignments. Thiy would also help maintain the beaches and they are willing to serve afe life guards next summer. There are fifteen 'teens in this unit, five active members and ten honorary members. These young men will visit your home for information such as name, address, phone and size of family. They will asl^io financial help from the association. We wish them all the luck possible in this worthy venture. The business session was adjourned at 9:10 p.m. There will be no Halloween party for the children. The mothers in the meeting agreed that trick or treats were sufficient and with so many different age groups, it was next to impossible to have a well managed party. However, there will be a Christmas party. Lorraine Hurckes, Lee Conway, B l a n c h e H a e f l i g e r , M a r i e Schlick, Gladys Mayer and Ann Mclnerney have agreed to plan the party but they can always use a few more helpers. Announcements and Discussion Period Blanche Haefliger reports that the Women's club rummage sale will be held on Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. till?? Form 9 -- Banking: Other Business Gas for heating the barn has been offered to the association at a 10 per cent discount. John Thelen has agreed to deed 'the barn and adjacent lot to the association if the association will assume the survey charges and lawyers fees. This is a very generous offer and should be carefully considered. Mr. Cinicin reports that the Cub Scouts will have a paper drive this Saturday, Oct. 17. If you have any old papers or magazines please set them out for the Cubs. The money will go toward a donation for a monument in Washington. We were honored with the presence of Tom Hanahan, the president from Sunnyside Estates. He gave a brief talk on the Young Democratic club which is being formed. If you are interested in the Democratic party and would like more information, call Mr. Hanahan. Ed Pfingsten reported on the H.O.D. prices. The price of $1.75 will hold if paid annually or semi-annually. Otherwise the price will be $2. Mr. Pfingsten also told of other young people coming into our community and crashing parties and causing fights among our young people. If you see a group of strange 'teen cars in the Highlands we forge you to be prepared to file a complaint, then call the sheriff at FE 8-2141.. There was a real good turnout and we hope to see more next month. By the way, the dues will remain at $15 per year for each dwelling. Gladys Mayer is our financial secretary. Let us help by paying our dues now. Here and There Three wedding* anniversaries three days in a row. On Oct. 17. Dick and Mary Madock will celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary.
