The law, passed by the 19o9 Legislature, requires anv farm vehicle travelling at less than 20 miles an hour to display a red flag at least 15 inches square at a height not less than 10 feet nor more than 12 feet above the ground. In place of the flag, at least one flashing red signal lamp 'may "be used. If a combination of vehicles is coupled together, only the rear vehicle need display the flag or lamp. Enforcement of this safety rule will be a matter of routine for all troopers patrolling state routes, Morris' office said. CARELESSNESS CAUSE OF MOST FARM ACCIDENTS Every year some farmer loses I a finger, a hand, an arm. or | even his life in a corn picker I accident. | • In 80 per cent of these cases j safety experts trace the cause to human carelessness. ,0. L. llogsett extension safety specialist for the University of Illinois Agricultural Extension j Service lost his hands in a I picker accident in 1943. He j knows what it means to be safe land unsafe. In an effort to i make people more safety consi cious he prepared a ktt of ma- I terials for use in Illinois Coun- I ties., | These materials included a set of thirty-six colored slides! ! illustrating his . own suffering} : and loss of time 'and money, j narrated in his own words by ; use of a tape recording, and an eight page illustrated leaflet for general distribution and a Safety poster. Farm Adviser Ralph Burnett says the slides and tape are available to any county group. The Hebron and Ridgefield Granges have shown them as part of their meetings. Where a tape recorder is not available a typed script has been prepared.
