Pag®Fotirt«en THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, December 3/ 1^59 Pistakee Highlands REPORT MANY ACTIVITIES IN HIGHLANDS Hazel Morley Kay Sielisch Hy 7 332fr Hy 7 3414 Grace Reinhardt enjoyed a luncheon with an old girl friend in Elmhurst last Tuesday. Lil Orlowski is real happy to be out of the wheel chair and enjoyed Thanksgiving doubly, since the doctor had taken her foot out of the cast. We are happy to report the little chapel on the Johnsburg road has been restored to its original state. We are very happy the chapel has been left open to the public once again. Many of the Highlanders have spent many peaceful moments of prayers and meditation. Jack Rathnow of 205 Nipper sink is recovering from double pneumonia at the Columbus hospital. He will be confined there until after Christmas. A few cardsrwould help pass the long hours for him. Barb Schlick and^ her boy friend, along with another couple, attended the J i m Lounsberry record hop held in Lake Zurich, last Saturday evening. Herb and Loraine Lindemann spent last Sunday visiting Herb's brother and family, the Wally Lindemanns in Antioch. We believe in giving bouquets to folks while they can enjoy them, so to Marie Schlick we would like to send an especially nice bouquet. Marie is a good neighbor to everyone and always ready to lend a hand where she is needed most. She has been taxiing folks to McHenry to doctors and shopping. She helps in sickness and always sends goodies to those confined folks. This reporter. Kay. has been a recipient of many of her good deeds. Frank Krumwiede enjoyed a week's vacation, so he took the family to his folk's farm in Wisconsin. The kiddies had a ball and hated to come home. Betty Sandelin spent last week visiting with her mother in Broadview. Mrs. Rilla Wilkenson spent the last three weeks visiting with her niece in Danville. Mrs. Wilkenson is one of the Highlanders senior citizens and is very spry and very active. Blanche Haefliger had her sister visiting with her last week. Dan Johnson is still looking for the owner of the lost puppy * he took in. Marcia Dowd's folks, the Diekmans of Chicago, brought their turkey dinner with them and shared their holiday with Marcia and the kiddies. Many of the parents in the Highlands attended the parent teacher conferences last Monday and Tuesday evening at St. John's school. It gave the parents a chance to have a good talk with the Nuns about their children and what they are doing in school. Roy Snell attended the dinner held in McHenry, Dec. 1, for the folks who had volunteered to assist in the fund drive for the McHenry hospital. Roy will be the chairman for the fund drive in the Highlands. Gertrude Snell and Kay Sielisch will attend the membership tea for the Woman's Auxiliary to the McHenry hospital to be held at the home of Gertrude Gladstone Dec. 5, from two to five. Wally and Kay Sielisch attended the funeral of Wally's uncle and godfather, Frank Kelly, last Friday in Chicago. He was a retired fireman and was^ Wally's favorite uncle. Woman's Club Xe\vs The regular monthly meeting of the Woman's® club was held last Tuesday Nov. 24, at the community center. It was a very windy cold evening and twenty-seven woman braved the cold to attend. They played games and each member gave their special thing they were thankful for. The hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Mares, Jeanne Baron. Beverley Lewandowski. A \ot of candy was sold at the rrteeting. The December meetin^will be held at the Johnsburg Community center on Dec. 22. Each member is asked to bring a 50 cent grab bag gift. It is hoped all the members of the Woman's club will attend this party. Local Gossip Here and There Forrest Reinhardt spent the T h a n k s g i v i n g h o l i d a y s w i t h his parents and grandparents, the Roy Snells. He returned .to the University at Bradley, after enjoying a few wonderful davs with fam'ly and friends. The Lou Tomao family spent the Thanksgiving holiday with Dotty's parents and brother's family in Ingleside. The Romanis and Tomaos have eight children so the grandparents enjoyed the children very much. News of the Dec. 2 association meeting will be in next week's issue so watch for all the important news that will be in the column then. Pat Jackson is confined in the McHenry hospital with pneumonia. Her mother from Chicago has taken' the ba"by and her aunt is taking care of the children who are in school. We hope Pat will be home soon and feeling like her old smiling self. Marcia Dowd is a bit sore these days since she has been "the patient in the Red Cross first aid course. Being flipped from one side of the bed to the other while it is being made can be strenuous work for the patient. Last Tuesday Marcia had a few minutes of panic when she had the car full of school children and the gears locked on the car. We are happy to say there was no accident. Anniversary and Birthday Milestones Anniversary wishes to Dick and Lee Conway who celebrated their anniversary Dec. 2; to Norbert and Beverley Lewandowski who celebrated their anniversary Dec. 5. A happy birthday to Lorraine Erdmann who celebrates her birthday Dec. 5. We wish you the very best and many more to come. They also discussed their plans for a Christmas party for the children. Members of this unit are Lee Johnson, Ron Spankuch, Milt Crosdale, Jim Garrity and Wayne Taylor who is the leader of the group. Honorary members to the unit are the Sea Scouts. These young adults are attending first aid classes, a democracy program and a navigation course put out by the government. These young men of our community are working with the co-operation and guidance of the Fox- Lake police and rescue squad, and the Sunnyside and McHenry fire department and rescue squads. This is iAdeed a worthwhile project and we wisfi them the best of luck for a successful unit. Honored at Shower A surprise bridal shower was held for Christa Thode on Nov. 21. Given by her future sisterin- law Erna Rockel, Christa received many nice things. Christa and Don Rockel will be | married on Dec. 12 at the Zion Lutheran church in McHenry. Here and There Lorraine Hurckes' mother, Mrs. Rix, spent Wednesday with Lorraine and family. It was a pre-Thanksgiving visit. Ray and Dolly Novotny entertained a few couples in their home last Sunday evening. They all admired Ray's handiwork at fixing up his basement and building himself a nice recreation room. Jim Mclnerney attended a father and daughter dance at Mundelein last Sunday. It was quite a thrill for both Dad and Kathy. Kathy also was home to spend Thanksgiving with her family. George and Marilyn Lammert and boys spent Thanksgiving with their good friends Bill and Jeanne Barron and their family. Little Shirley Mason was sick with the measles la^ week. Mama Mason's plans for eating Thanksgiving dinner out took on a sudden change and the Masons enjoyed their pinner at home. It seems that your reporter's (Haze) has been under a constant cloud of sickness since I came home from the hospital. Just last week two of my boys had the stomach flu and not to be outdone I joined in with them. So if the column seems just a bit smaller this week it's because I just haven't felt too spunky. • L i n d a D o b e c k i c e l e b r a t e d her tenth birthday on Nov. 19 by having a pajama party in her home with a few of her friends. On hand were Mary Lynn Johnson, Janice Erbin, Jeanne and Renee Janquart and sister, Debbie. The girls enjoyed pizza, potato chips, cake and pop. They played some games and had a dandy pillow fight. Linda received some nice gifts from the girls. Well, that's about it for this week. Bye now. IT PAYS TO ADVERTISE COMPANY SALESH.
