Raymond Powers, who was called here by the critical illness and death of his mother, Mrs. Lillian Powers, last week, returned to his home in Pekin, 111., Saturday. Mrs. A. P. Freund was a recent guest in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Pet it - clair and family, in YVaukcgan. She was accompanied by her son, "Donald, tYefcnd and family. of Crystal Lake. Edward Dwyer of Chicago was a weekend guest of his sister, Mrs. Walter Walsh. Mrs. James Wagner of Milton, Wis., visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Simon. Saturday. Ruth Mrachek, president, announced today that McHenry unit will join other units of the American Legion Auxiliary throughout the country in spearheading the Crusade for Freedom's fund drive in support of Radio Free Europe. All funds collected during, the campaign will be used by Radio Free Europe to sent undistorted news and information to its target countries behind the Iron Curtain: Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, - Romania and Bulgaria. The American Legion, at its 1959 convention in Minneapolis, pledged "to. continue" its fuli and complete support of the Crusade for Freedom and the mission of Radio Free Europe " This year, as an added incentive, the national president of the American Legion auxiliary, Mrs. Alexander H. Gray has adopted this program as her special project. She is urging that the period between L i n c o l n a n d W a s h i n g t o n ' s birthdays, from the twelfth to the twenty-second of February, be set aside for special concentration on this program. Win A Trip To Europe The McHenry unit is also sponsoring the Crusade's Truth Message contest in which 256 prizes are offered including six trips to Paris, Munich and Lisbon, in which yoQCare asked to complete the following sentence in twenty-five words or less: "I believe the most important thing people behind the Iron C u r t a i n s h o u l d k n o w i s . . . " \Crusade for Freedom supports Radio Free Europe's network pf twenty-eight powerful transmitters and relay stations located in West Germany and Portugal.'
