A talk with one of our village board members produced this summary. -- As an act of God would have it, the recent heavy waters from inclement and unseasonable rains have some down from the higher spots into this now flooded section which in essence is the base of a saucer-like area. Many years ago a huge drain tile was laid to help drain off the water from this area which at that time was not residential. The tile through the years has grown silt and roots which do somewhat hamper its operation. Several ,of the board mem- / •* bers went to the scene as soon as they were notified of the existing circumstances. Attempts were made and were successful in opening the ditch at< Riverside in Dack of the Vogue. Andther cleaned ditch was the qBe near the Sarley home. This helped somewhat, but was only a~scratching of the surface. rSince the heavy rains of recent weeks, frost and snow have set a heavy freeze into the tile and factually, nothing be done until the weather pgrmits. Once' the weather \fjirms and the thaw begins. tRe tile may start to take the \C&ter again. Happy Birthday The Shogran family has been busy all last week, baking cakes for the different members of their family. Young Billy Shogran was just thirteen. Dee Dee was nine and father Bill was twenty-eight. He's saving the other ten years for when he gets older and can use them. Infant Surgery Little Mariannette Schmit, two month old infant of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Schmit underwent surgery on Monday morning. It's really frozen over now. LICENSE PLATE SALE RUNNING BEHIND 1959 T^he sale of 1960 Illinois license^ plates is running slightly behind the sale of plates at the same time last year. Secretary of State Charles F. Carpentier reported this last week. Through last week Monday, 1,892,000 applications for registration had been received and processed. This is some 47,000 less than at the same time last year. The Secretary of State's office expects a registration this year of 3,825,000 motor vehicles. . In releasing the latest figures. Secretaij Carpentier reminded Illinois motorists that only three weeks remain before the Feb. 15. deadline for displaying the I960 plates. Those motorists who plan to submit their applications by mail now have but 1 week left before mailing applications to insure having the plates by-display deadline, as about (wo weeks are required for the processing of the applications and the delivery of the plates. Motorists who applied last October for the reassignment of high numbers were again reassured by Secretary Carpentier that they will receive their plates in time for mounting before the Feb. 15 deadline. Secretary Carpentier pointed out that plates must be mailed in numerical order until after the peak of the licensing period has been reached. After that, however, higher numbers than those currently being assigned can be mailed. We desperately need a meeting place for our two girl scout troops, the cub den. the Woman's club, the association, and recreational activities for ourselves and our children.
