O. Jensen ^eb. 9. News of Your Friends and Neighbors Toots Spankuch was under the weather last week with a bad case v>f flu. My co-reporter Haze has her hands full. Her three months old baby. Brad, is confined to the Victory hospital in Waukegan, with a bronchial infection. The little fellow is holding his own and we all are praying real hard for him. I would like to take this opportunity to tell Haze how grateful I am for her taking over the column while I enjoyed two - glorious weeks with my family in Michigan, Haze did a wonderful job, as she always does when I am away. It is comforting to know the column will be read even though one of us is away. Ron Axel, Wayne Taylor and Ron S p a n k u c h a t t e n d e d t h e auto show in Chicago last week and now they are all hoping to get a new car. Gladys Mayer attended a bridal shower for her cousin's \ daughter in Chicago, last Sunday. Now she is looking forward to the wedding. Barb Schlick is very happy these days. She has been accepted at the Grant hospital in Chicago as a student for nurses training. We all wish you the best of" luck in your training and we know you will make it with flying colors. Watch your garbage cans folks. Many of the lids are being taken. Several folks have reported the lids missing including your reporter Ka^.^ ^ Belated birthday greetings to little Christine Thelen,. who celebrated her fourth birthday, Jan. 25. We are sure such a • pretty little girl had a very nice birthday and we are sorry we missed it. Most of the volunteer workers for the Johnsburg Rescue fund drive are reporting success in their efforts. They all have done a wonderful job and they deserve a big hand for going out in this weather. The Frank Krumwiede family attended the family potluck dinner held at the Fox Lake Baptist church last Saturady. Jim and Ruth Lemmons spent several days visiting relatives in .Missouri last week. They enjoyed the mid-winter trip and Ruth felt a lot better. Brownie and Girl Scout Social Postponed The Brownie and Girl Scout social hour was postponed until Feb. 9. Illness caused the affair to be cancelled and we hope the leaders and their families are all doing fine now. Johnsburg P.T.A. A "nominating com m i 11 e e was elected to present a slate of candidates for new officers for next years term. Mrs. Peterson, Mrs. Marshall. Mrs. Koch and Mfs. Tuft comprise the committee. If they call you for an office, why not accept the nomination. It is not a hard job and you will enjoy it and have a lot of fun doing it. The candidates' names will be read at the February meeting. The election will be hel'd in March and the new officer's will be installed in April. Let's all cooperate with the committee. News Briefs Last Saturday the Wally Misavices entertained the Bill Schlicks. They enjoyed the evening playing pinochle. The Bill Schlick family will have a couple busy weekends. Jan. 31, they were dinner guests of the Titers in . Rolling Meadows. Feb. 6, "ttiey will attend a card party toxbe held in the home of Virginia Leman in Chicago. Loraine and Herb Lindemann were very happy to have their grandson Larry from Lansing spending nearly two weeks with them. They took Larry back to Lansing last Sunday and enjoyed a visit with their daughter, Marilyn. . If you were not home or were unintentionally missed when the workers for the Johnsburg rescue squad were around and you would like to doi^ate to the fund you may call Kay Sielisch and she will be glad to see it is picked up. Last Tuesday Loraine Lindeann's grandson, Larry, spent the afternoon as the guest of Glen Hayner. The boys spent a pleasant afternoon watching the Brownies ice skate. Sunday Jan. 24, Sally Von- Bruenchenheiri gave a baby shower for her sister-in-law. Monday, Marcia Dowd and Erline Wehrstein helped Sally finish all the delicious leftovers for the shower. What no cards, girls? Woman's Club Wednesday Jan. 27, the women enjoyed playing progressive bunco. All the women brought their 25 cent gift for the cherry tree for the February meeting. The hostesses for the evening were Sylvia Murry, Tina O'Malley, Mamie O'Neil and Darlene Neesan. The cakes and coffee were delicious and everyone enjoyed the evening very much and are l o o k i n g f o r w a r d t o n e x t month's meeting. The dance will be Feb. 6. St. John's Home and School Association Jan. 26, the St: John's Home and School association held its monthly meeting. It was announced that 500 copies of the cook book would soon be on sale. Rev. Father Cletus Anger gave a talk on "Educating your child on sex life": After the speech Father Anger held a question and answer period. A nominating corrfWiittee was formed. At the nex>t meeting they will submit their slate of candidates for the coming election. The meeting was well attended. More fathers were present than ever attended before. Teen Club News The officers of the 'teen club held a meeting Monday night, Jan. 25, in Craig Thoren's basement. It was decided that they will have an ice skating party on Feb. 20 or 21. The 'teens have been going to the gym the past few Friday evenings, but there is always one trouble they come up against and that is getting an adult to chaperone them. The Jerry Thelens have helped and so has Mr. Thoren. They can really have a good time playing basketball and volley ball if they could get someone to go along. If any adult would be interested in joining the 'teens on Friday nights they can contact Craig Thoren at Hy. 7-3277 or Gloria Waldin at Hy. 7-3101. The 'teens wouleU sure appreciate it if more parents would show interest. There's, basketball and volley ball that men and women can both enjoy. Wayne Taylor is most grateful to Dolores Formella for her quick thinking 4nd help when his car slid into a ditch. Dolores aided Wayne until the rescue squad arrived on the scene. He was taken to the McHenry hospital and released the next morning. Joyce Heir, Sylvia Murray and Kay Rielly helped Lorraine Ullo celebrate her birthday.' Kay baked Lorraine her f a v o r i t e p i n e a p p l e u p - s i d e down cake and they gathered at Riellys for the celebration. Ed and Virginia Thoren and family enjoyed the auto show in Chicago last week' Jack Rielly was home last week on vacation. He has three more weeks coming. He had a ball watching all his neighbors trudging through the snow while he sat back in the comfort of his warm home. Dogs are still a 'menace to our community. Residents are gbing to start solving the problems themselves if the owners of the dogs don't "keep them on their own property. Just watch them all yell when something happens to 'Rover', but they don't care enough to feed the dog or stop them from destruction ;n the neighborhood. Happy anniversary to Leif and Emma Eide who celebrated their sixteen years of wedded bliss, on Jan. 30. Fun Fair Coming It will not be held until April 9, but time flies" by so rapidily. The Johnsburg school will hold its annual Fun Fair on Saturday, April 9, from 5 to 9 p.m. There will be a white elephant sale, games for the children and bake sale booth. Refreshments will be sold. We wish her a speedy recovery. Mrs. George VanZevern had to be towed out of the ditch last Wednesday. She . slid into the ditch on a very slippery hill.
