By Anne Ashley 1 Q. How can I eliminate the annoyance of water bugs in my house ? A. You can do much toward warding off the invasion of these pests by pouring a small quantity of kerosene, or a weak solution of turpentine (three parts water to one part turpentine) down the drainpipe, once or twice a week. Q. Is there anything I can do about wool sweaters or skirts that "pill" -- develop balls of fuzz that cannot be brushed or picked off? A. Try giving them a very gentle shave with a safety razor. Then, after the clothing is brushed, its surface should look like new. . Q. How can I get some further practical use from a faded chenille toilet-seat cover? A. Just pull up the drawstrihg real tight, and you'll have a dusting mitt that will last a long time. Q. How can I make a neater job of fastening the backing on pictures I am framing? A. From your hardware .store, procure some of tne little triangular points used for setting window glass in panes, and use these for, fastening down your picture backing. They go into the frame easily and lie flat without gouging tracks in the cardboard. Q. What is a formula for a good "homemade" wax for hardwood floors? A. You can make a very good one from half a cake of melted paraffin and a cupful of turpentine. Q. How can I remove some rust stains from an enameled sink or bathtub? A. A mixture of ope-half cup of grapefruit juice and one tablespoon of salt makes a good rust remover. Q. How can I give the burn-, ers on my gas stov\ a real thorough cleaning? A. Remove the burners and dump them into a laWe enameled pot with water ahd lye. Boil them for 10 na-mtes. There's no need to dryuhem afterward. Just replace Viem, for a few minutes, and tJ^y'll dry themselves. Q. How can I make s\me beef juice? A. Cut some fresh raw bief up into small squares and at a few pieces at a time into t] potato ricer. Sprinkle a littj salt over it, and press hard un\ til no more juice runs out. Q. How can I remove the odor from a frying pan in which I have fried some fish? A. Sprinkle salt in the pan, add hot water, and let stand awhile before washing. Q. How can I keep patent leather from cracking? A. Olive oil, glycerin, or sweet oil rubbed over the surface of patent leather occasionally will prevent it from cracking.
