•L Fourteen THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER * -!>• ' • Thursday, March 3, iSro Sunnyside Estates MARCH MEETING OF HOME OWNERS HELD AT SCHOOL Lois Anderson The March meeting of Sunnyside Estates Home Owner? association will be held tonight at the Johnsburg public school, promptly at 8. We mentioned last week that you can obtain some vital information about „your personal property tax at this meeting. This, plus other items of interest make the March meeting a must on your calendar. Cake and coffee will be served as usual after the regular business. Under the Weather Three year old Pat Maule has been on the sick list of I late. He has had glandular fev- : er which seems to be becoming "quite comrrvSh these days. Try keeping a three year old in bed when he doesn't feel real bad, but doctor's orders call for it: We hope by now he is well again. Parties Members of the pre-school set were busy a week ago with .birthday parties. On Feb. 21, Kasey and Patti Anderson celebrated their fourth and third birthdays at a party with their little friends and grandma and grandpa. This was an easy one for me as ,-their sister Mary, made all the favors and refreshments. which incidentally were done very well. Thipgs ran very smoothly and everyone seemed to have a good time. Another good time was enjoyed the following Wednesday when Tommy Hanahan, who was three, entertained some of his friends at his birthday party. There were lots more kids, goodies and presents so this age group should have its fill of "happy birthday to you" which they enjoy so much. Homemaking Tips A new labeling law for clothing and most household goods made from textiles becomes effective on March 3. The Textile Products Fiber Identification Act requires that each fiber be identified by its .generic (group) name on a hang-tag or label. The percentage of the fiber, by weight, in the fabric must also be listed. If the law is to prove helpful, consumers must learn the new fiber identification terms, the generic names, sfays Mrs. Ruth Galbraith, textile specialist. at the University of Illinois. To simplify and standardize the information, the Federal Trade Commission assigned fibers with similar properties, into groups; It then gave each group a generic (group) name. To illustrate, acrylic is the generic nafne for a group of fibers that are chemically similar. There are now four acrylics. Their trade names are Orion, Acrilan, Zefran and Creslan. They have similar properties, one of which is bulkiness without weight. But these four acrylics differ in other ways. For example, some are easier to dye than others. The FTC divided synthetics into sixteen generic groups, but women shoppers will buy only ten of them. They are acetate, acrylic, metallic, modacjylic, nylon, nytril, polyester, rayon, rubber and spandex. The natural fibers,, cotton, wool, silk and linen, retain these names as generic names. To simplify shopping, smart shoppers will learn both the generic name and the properties for each group of synthetics. They will also identify familiar trade names with the generic name. Then as new fibers come to the market they can associate them with the familiar ones. For example, Vycron is due soon and will be labeled polyester. If shoppers learn now that Dacron is a polyester, they'll have COMMITTEEMEN FROM TOWNSHIP SUPPORT McCLORY Republican precinct committeemen from M c H e,n r y township Friday night joined a growing list of township and city groups that are 'ibacking the bid for re-election of State Senator Robert McClory, of Lake Bluff. Polled informally following a dinner meeting at Hettermann's restaurant in Johnsburg, the McHenry Township committeemen voiced t h ei r support of Sen. McClory on the basis of his record, his seniority and key committee positions, arid his service to the people of the 52nd senatorial district. The com mitteemen announced that they were backing their support by scheduling a series of coffee hours and informal gatherings for the veteran legislator- FIFTH COUNTY PLEDGES SUPPORT OF COUNTY JUDGE Village of Sunnyeid^ Need Reporter In This Area ' Irma Gunther - Reporter - EV. 5-5484 I guess most" of you know that. Often the only purpose of a lining is to help the coat slip on more easily. But interlinings used for warth must be labeled for fiber content. The major type of household textile not included in the new law ,is upholstery fabric on manufactured furniture. However, upholstery fabrics sold by the yard must be labeled. The law also requires label- j ing of merchandise sold in quantity packages. For example, several pairs of socks are often packaged together.
