McHenry c o u n t y farmers can still apply for assistance under the Agricultural Conservation Program for establishing acreages in long term grasses and legumes. This pagti ivestock ducers, said Mr. Austin, office manager of the local ASC office. Some of our 1960 program funds have been set aside for a few preferred practices, continued Mr. Austin, and we would like to use this money in sharing the costs with farmers in establishing good pasture mixtures. The long: term production of this crop is considered to be sound conservation so the government through the AC program will share about 50 percent of the establishment cost with the farmer. In return for this assistance the farmer must keep the pasture or meadow crop on the land for at least four years following the year in which the seeding is accomplished. This, said Mr. Austin, is jess time than previously required and might now better fit the needs and plans of more farmers. Mr. Austin also stated that sufficient funds were available for all A CP practices offered in McHenry coutity; * He urges all farmers interested in receiving cost-share assistance to sign-up at the county affice. !, TAX FACTS Questions and Answers . 1. Six per cent of the amount collected by the department is retained by the state treasurer to cover the cost incurred by the Department in enforcing andTadministering the law.
