Other business discussed included the annual installation dinner in May, and a bake sale in June. . ^Engagement Announced ^John Schuppe has announced his engagement to Mrs. Evelyn Lee, 6£. Island Lake. John has known his fiancee for several years, since they are both members of St. John's Lutherah church. Mrs. Lee has a son, Robert, who is seventeen. The wedding has been set for July I ^ On the Sick List Little Dennis Jeschke has been very sick with intestinal flu, but is recovering his usual goodp health. Mother Millie is more fortunate than most of us, however, for she has big brothers, Ronnie and Johnnie, to take turns walking the baby. Mrs. Elizabeth Pierce is recuperating at home after a mek's stay in the hospital. Vi A^bbink and daughters had quite a battle with the flu bug. Don Norton Makes Recording Friends of Don and Lorraine Norton were very happy to hear recently of the record which Don made. "Hold Me" is on one side, and a dance version of "Trees" on the oth* er. both sung in Don's pleasant iOritone. Don was featured vocalist with an orchestra which played at Chicago for four years. He also sang in musical comedies with Bert Lahr and other stage notables. His singing career was interrupted when that orchestra disbanded and the Nortons moved to Holiday Hills. Plans for the future include <^trip to , Ashtabula, Ohio, j%n's home town, where he will make television appearances. The Nortons hope that this will mean a new beginning for Don, who has never given up his desire for a career in musical comedy. Best of luck, Don! Girl Scout Birthday ^At their regular meeting on Wesday, March 8, Troop 478 celebrated the forty^eighth birthday of the Girt Scouts with a cake, baked by Bonnie Exline. The girls spent the evening making St. Patrick's Day favors for Valley Hi Home in Woodstock, arid elected Jane- Oleyar. Audrey Estis and Cynthia Schultz to accompany leaders, Gerry Breede and Phyllis Harper, on. the trip to deliver thetn. Personal Items Ann Slottag, Abby Emerson, Billy Eccles and Kareh Smith celebrated Joy Gorup's return from six weeks in the East with a kaffee klatsch at Ann's house. Accompanying Joy on the trip home was her young sister, Patricia Chapman, from Oneida, N. Y„ who Will live with Tom and Joy for some time. She is a junior at Mc- Henry high school and hopes to get herj diploma here. 6-year-old. Brian Stoddard was the envy of all his schoolmates last week, for he had nine baby teeth to carry around in his pocket and show off to his friends. The dentist was forced to remove so many at one time to make room for the permanent teeth. He stated that all World War II veterans who are eligible for G.I. loans, and who have not taken advantage of jthia privilege, have only until July 25. 1960, to do so, unless the pretent Congress sees fit to extend the tiufce-. •'* Mr. Johftson also stated that the Direct Loan Program to? both World War n and Kortfan --i_ veterans would end July 25, I960, unless, extended by this session of Congress. This program provided for a direct loan to veterans by the Veterans Administration, not to exceed $13,500, in certain areas where veterans find it difficult to get a G.I. loan through local financial agencies. , He further advised that veterans affected by either loan program, who intend to make use of this privilege, to do so it once, in order that their application be on file so that it can be properly processed even after the delimiting date for fiMne.
