This banquet will be long remembered for the terrific message so forcibly delivered by Ray Eliot, former football coach at the University of Illinois. Ray was far and away the • H best speaker heard in some |I ti me. He loosened up his crowd : £with amusing reports at the I $ start, then drove home his : points so convincingly that all : age groups gained something : good. After hearing Eliot, we can well understand how he has lifted his teams to a pitch for some of the biggest upsets of all time. Our cheer leaders, those bouncing young gals, were wellpoised and lovely young ladies is they walked up to receive their awards. We like to attend such banquets. MCHSTRACKMEN ore< SEASON AT GRAYSLAKE The McHenry track squad is scheduled to open its season against Grayslake, Thursday April 7, at Grayslake. The cindermen will then face Grant Monday April 11 and Dundee Wednesday, April 13 at home. Hiey are also scheduled for two top Relay Meets at Palatine and DeKalb. The banquet was an outstanding success as Coach Eliot delivered a hard hitting address that will linger long with all who had the • good fortune to be present. , GRASS FIRES RESULT IN NO PROPERTY DAMAGE Three grass fires brought out the local firemen this past week, giving evidence that spring is with us. The first was in a lot on Elm street near the Peter M. Justen chapel, which occurred early Saturday afternoon, and the • second was behind Pine Tree Tower, east of the city, Monday noon. A 'third fire broke out on N. Park street Wednesday morning. No damage was reported in any of the fires. Firemen warn that there is a fine up to $100 for starting grass fires that get out of control and necessitate calling the department.
