Thursday, April 28, 1960 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Eastwood Manor SPEED SIGNS ERECTED BY COMMITTEE ^ Dee Penlck EV. 5-5527 m - The safety committee lost no time in erecting the twelve speed signs throughout the subdivision. Milt McHale wag , the chairman and praised the efforts of those on the committee and also Warren Krebs and Gerry Biederer who joined • them in the task. They placed the signs where they would be -jfniost effective. If you know of ci danger area which needs attention Milt would appreciate the information in order to remedy the situation and make the streets as safe as possible for, all concerned. Birthday Greetings Are extended to two children who share April 29 as their birthdate. Linda French will be 2 and Mike McCormack will be 6. wirnin^ As chairman of the safety Committee Milt would like to Caution all motorist to be extremely careful when making a left hand turn:.off Route 120 onto Hillside Lane. Many of the longtime residents of the IftCHenry area are not as yet {fthtiliar with the turnoff and hatfe frequently attempted to p&ss a car there. Even though the directional signals are blinking they apparently mistake it as a desire to turn onto -£!hapel Hill road which is a ^good distance farther along. The committee is looking into the situation to see if the 40 mph speed zone can be extended a little farther East on Rt. 120 than it is at present. Misty Egg Hunt "ilie misting rain may not have been ideal for an Easter egg hunt but at least„the party Avasn't forced to move into the Darn. All those who sought shelter were the parents, for the "hildren were oblivious to the weather. They stalked the corral for the well concealed quarry and were duly rewarded for their finds with chocolate bunnies and a colorful balloon. Tom and Helen Birming- ^ ham and their helpers, Terry Qual, Yvonne Davis, Patsy QCoughiln, Rita Simpson and Lois Ryan were kept busy passing out the prizes to the successful hunters and also, we suspect, to a few not so successful. There was . a terrific turnout of kids. They and we thank the committee for its efforts. Accident We've all had our windshields peppered with gravel from a truck ahead, so did Edith Long, Texas style! She had to swerve her car to avoid hitting a huge rock which fell from the bed of a truck ahead of her as she was driving on Route 120 last Thursday. The right front side of her car struck the rock causing the tire to burst and the impact threw • her daughter, Janet, against the dash. Janet's ear is feeling better now and we certainly hope the therapy treatments which Edith is undergoing will relieve the soreness in her neck. ~ s • Recuperating A this writing David Borcovan is very ill .with the measles. There are reports of recoveries this week so maybe we can wave good-bye to them soon. All four Dm kin boys have recovered from the case which they had passed on to them from their big sis, Cathy. Craig Sigman and Jackie Ritler have recently recovered from them, while'Lynn Noolan and Randy Penick are just now starting on their seige. Debra Ryan is feeling better after her bout with the flu. Elaine Rogers is home after spending a little time in the hospital for observation. One glance at Martha Simpson at play and you'll see she has' taken her minor surgery in stride. •K First Communion Many youngsters look fori ward to their first Communion, j Larry Salo made his at St. Mary's church. To date, only about 50 per cent of these li- ! censes have been renewed. Complaints will be signed by I the enforcing officer against anyone operating a trailer park or motel who does not renew his license by April 30. George Jedlicka, county building and zoning officer, re- I minds that a single trailer is j considered a trailer park and requires a license by McHenry county. The new sign ordinance adopted by the'board of super- ; visors became effective March 8. The new ordinance requires that all: signs erected in McHenry county without a permit that are in violation of setback requirements in the county be removed within six months from, the passage of ; this .ordinance. Strict penalties are provided for violators of this ordinance, and as the property owner is in violation and not the owner of the sign, it vyould be advisable to contact the enforcing officer of McHenry county if you have any signs on your property to be sure that they are not in violation of the new ordinance. All signs legally erected will bear a number designating that a permit for erection has been issued by the county. They had an exhibition and we all went to see what Red had done. Red's painting was one of the most beautiful there. We stared at it for the longest time, then all agreed it was a painting of a field close to town, and that it showed a woman in the distance who looked a lot like Red's wife. We congratulated our artist on his work. Red smiled, thanked us all, and was quite happy. When he left. Slim Johnson noticed the title card by the « painting. It read: "Storm Scene on The Lake" by Red.Dolan. »- From where I sit, there ar£ often occasions when we don't see what we're really •apposed' to see. Why sometimes we can't even recognize intolerances when it comes along. For instance, if yon begrudge me the right to an occasional glass of beer, that's as intolerant as if I denied yon a glass of iced tea.
