Page Foar THE McHENRY PL AINDEALER Thursday, April 28,731960 eoHje. waJUJu SO I HEAR Many of us have been very anxious for the following ann o u n c e m e n t : The M c H e n r y American Legion will again sponsor a junior legion baseball team. The team will compete in the eight team, McHenry County League. The McHenry County winner will compete for the district championship. Harvard, the defending coun-ty ty champion Won the 11th District Championship last year. Fox Lake, the Lake County Champion advanced to the state finals by winning the 2nd Division Title. Any boy in the McHenry High School District (excluding Wonder Lake who sponsors a team? who was born September 1, 1942 or after is eligible to play. Watch for an announcement of registration. Perpetual emotion is the straw that breaks the camel's back. ~ You can't judge a book by its cover, but you <9can judge a story by its ending. JOHNSBURG LOSES EXHIBITION GAME TO RACINE 7 TO 4 Experience, is acquired two ways, by doing and being done m by In the first exhibition game of the season, Johnsburg met a strong team from Racine. The game started out as a pitchers' duel between Sonny Miller of the Tigers and D. Johnson of Racine. Racine broke the scoreless tie with four runs "in the sixth and added two runs in A diplomat is a dignitary who is adept at juggling a" hot potato, until it becomes a cold j the seventh. Anonymous We can assure the American Legion members that they are making some boys real happy. While Thomas F. Bolger, who coached the boys for many years, has retired from coaching, he will assist in the organization of the team. Watch for further announcements. The county league schedule opens next Sunday this way: Algonquin at McHenry Dundee at Richmond * Crystal Lake at Elgin Arrows The Elgin V.F.W. team has dropped out of the league and Harvard has entered a team. When t*i e V.F.W. team dropped out, Johnsburg scheduled the Chicago Firemen so they will have to arrange a game with Hafrvard. Response to the McHenry Shamrock Booster Club has been very encouraging. The idea is for many people to do a little toward supporting the team rather than a few doing 5t all. Most people like it. McHenry Country Club News By Jack Buckie Algongujo ta a.jjM bueb*n tejaamm and win be sure to Dnng a hustling team to McHenry next Sunday. Manager John Knox says his . team will be ready. The 1960 golf season got off to a pretty good start last Sunday in spite of some gusty breezes and some soggy turf conditions due to the spring floods. Many of the members shot golf in true mid-season form. Art Jackson (74-6-681 and Ed Buss, Jr. (75-2-73) were the low net winners in Class A. Homer Fitzgerald (86- 13-73) and Joe Etten (89-15- 74) walked off with low net honors in Class B. Congratulations, boys. There are 16 qualifiers in each class for the Director's tournament which starts next Sunday. Tee times are posted on the locker room bulletin board. There were three Class B golfers tied for the 16th place qualifying position with net scores of 83. They were Roy Weselius, Ray Rode and Bob Newkirk. Our track is designed to test the skill of the riders and also permits a high level of rider and spectfttor safety. „ New rules which will govern our track in the coming year have been recently approved by the competition committee. TTie new rules are: 1. All motorcycles competing must be equipped with snap throttle which is set to automatically shut down. Jhis will prevent the possibility of a runaway cycle. 2. All road machines competing must haVe their headlights taped. This will prevent the scattering of glass on the track. 3. A.M.A. Approved Helmets must be worn by All riders. There will be no exceptions. 4. No riders will be allowed on the track until the ambulance has arrived and taken its position. Races will be held up, in the event that the ambulance must leave to take a rider to the'hospital, until it returns. 5. No spectators will be allowed to cross the track or enter on the track at any time. All formerly passed rules concerning riders will be discussed before every race. These rules will go into effect starting with our first race on May 22, which will be a benefit race for the Mental Health Center of McHenry County. Other-safety features include an ambulance with the necessary first aid equipment, inspection of the track by an appointed member before races begin, flag men at all points of danger, and a communications system which enables us to dispatch the ambulance at a moment's notice.
