f Page Eighieib J Pistakee Highlands BUSY MEETING CONDUCTED BY VICE-PRESIDENT Hazel Morley Hyatt 7-3320 Ray Stelisch Hyatt 7-3414 President McCreery, for the first time since htf took office, was unable to preside at the mooting and Vice-President Fred Haubold sat in for him, and did a wonderful job of conducting the meeting with all the officers present. Fred gave a resume of all the things accomplished this year and the progress being made for better government for the community and 1 u t u r e officers. Most monies taken in >vill be spent for road repairs and bringing the roads up to township specifications in future years. A carnival is being planned for August and the monies will go for rond repairs. This will-be on a commission basis and no association funds will be expanded. - Clot us Mayer gave a report on the clean streams committee and she asked permission to take samples of water for testing to see how safe the water may or may not be on our bearhes for swimming. The usual discussion about dogs came up and everyone is waiting for the pick-up of these dogs that are always running loose. Use Lots for Short Cuts Several folks hfive called and asked that an item be put in the paper asking parents to instruct their children not to use other people's property for short cuts. Rubbish Pick Up May 14 H.O.D. will have pick-up on Saturday, May 14. All items should be placed at Jhe curb, and all loose rubbish should be in containers. After this date the H.O.D. will pick up two (24 containers at the regular charge. There will be an extra charge for anything over this amount. Birthdays and Anniversaries Many happy returns of the day and happy birthday wishes go to Eleanor Brill who celebrates her birthday May 13 and to Dorothy Johnson who celebrates May 14. Congratulations on your wedding anniversaries too,, Chester and Terry Oziminski celebrated their special day May 14; to Donald and Wanda Dobecki who celebrated their anniversary May 15. Open Letter to the Highlands The week of May 16 to 21 has been designated as "Mail Box Improvement Week". The department wishes to encourage patrons to provide suitable . Xews of Your Friends and Neighbors I.ynn, Murray spent a few days in the McHenry hospital last week and we are happy to say she is doing fine now. Dotty^- Rodarmel is confined at St. There^e hospital in Waukegan. A few cards from her friends and neighbors would help a lot. Last Monday Kay Sieiisch received a beautiful bouquet of arbutus from her mother in Northern Michigan. This is an annual event for Kay as her mother has never missed a year in the 22 years Kay has been gone from home. Little Bobby Glueck is hobbling .about on crutches because his foot is in a cast. Mother Gerry taught him how to use the crutches and he is getting along on them just fine. May 2, Blanche Haefliger spent the day in Chicago, where she met her friend. Ann. They enjoyed a day of shopping, luncheon and a movie. May 5, Gert Snell and her guest, _ Kay Sieiisch, attended the' dessert iuncheon and white elephant sale sponsored by the Woman's auxiliary of the McHenry hospital sewing guild. The affair was held in the lovely home of Mrs. Marian Carlson on Center street. McHenry. Anna Cohrs treated Blanche Haefliger and Gert Snell to a delicious luncheon May 4. at the Zion Lutheran church in McHenry. Belated happy birthday greetings go out to Allen Ullo who reached the ripe old age of six May 7. May 8 the family had a birthday celebration for him. Carl Haefliger, who owns up to 39 years, celebrated his natal day May 8. Several of the parents from the Highlands attended the basketball banquet held at the Chapel Hill country club. May 3. Loraine Llndemann spent the weekend in' Lansing, with her daughter, Marilyn. Mother's day she spent at the home of her son, Harry, to help with the big event of her grandchild's First Holy Communion. Sea Explorers Received A Citation April 25, at the annual adult Scouters banquet, held in Woodstock nine boys from our district were guests. The Sea Explorer unit in the Kiswaukee District Ship 629, Pistakee Highlands boys, received a citation for outstanding services for this area in-time of disaster. They also received a God and Country Commendation for service to their community. The boys really lived up to their motto "Our best today for a better tomorrow". The boys are noted in this community for all the good deeds they have done. Tom and Betty Warzak celebrated their wedding anniversary April 30. Johnsburg School Registration Registration of kindergarten and first grade children, not attending kindergarten at the present, will be held May 18, 19, and 20 from 9 to 11 and 1 to 3 p.m. at the school office. The office will also be open for registration from , 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday; May 20. Children registering for kindergarten must be 5 years of age on or before Dec. 1. 1960. Children registering for first grade must be 6 years of age on or before Dec. 1. 1960. A birth certificate verifying your child's age must be presented at registration. Fun Fair This Saturday That's right, this Saturday, May 14. is the long awaited Fun Fair at Johnsburg school from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Besides the many booths, white elephant sale and bake sale there will be a " silhouette artist. There will be delicious food available and fun for the whole family. Plan to attend this Saturday. Little League Parents "Meet The parents of the youngsters who will be playing Little League baseball this summer, will have a meeting on May 16 at 8 p.m. at the Johnsburg Commun'ty hall. The purpose of the meeting is to elect officers and managers. Boys must be between the ages of 8 to 12 to. be eligible, to play. .Around the Highlands Hazel Rogde spent the past week and a half in DeKalb with her mother and an aunt who was ill. Your reporter, Haze, spent last Thursday in WaUkegan. Dick and Lee Conway and family spent Mother's Day in Chicago with Dick's parents. This should be most interesting to dad as well as the boys. Her* Wd There Bob Hurckes took son, Tommy, to watch the Cubs play ball in Chicago last week. Mr. and Mrs. Ristow have their daughter and son-in-law staying with them. They arrived last week from Florida. Katfty Mclnerney was happy to be home with her family last weekend. Bob and Lorraine Hurckes and family visited with Bob's brother, Dick, in Kenosha last Sunday. That seems to be it for another week. We hope to be hearing from more of you with your news items.
