The batting star of the game was Jim Wickencamp who came up with< the game winning single in the last of the ninth as a1 pinch" hitter. Joe Stanek and Denny Freund each had two hits, while Chuck Olson, Chuck Pierce, Ron Mauer and Jim Wickencamp each came through with a hit. Denny Freund had the only extra base hit of the game, a double. We scored the only run of the game in the ninth when, after one out, Don Bentz worked the pitcher for a base on balls. Bob Mathews struck out. Bentz stole second to put the winning run in scoring position with two out and Lee Mai due up. Manager John Knox called time out and called Jim Wickencamp out to pinch hit for Mai. Wickencamp hit the first pitch for a line single to score Bentz from second with the winning run. This clutch hit by Wickencamp made manager John Knox's strategy look mighty good and move the Shamrocks into first place all by themselves. It also made a hero out of Wickencamp.- Sunday, May 29, the league leading Shamrocks travel to Harvard in another league game. _ Monday, May 30, the to Play theShamrocKs in McHenry. This Sunday, May 29, Dundee will face the Tigers on the Johnsburg diamond. This game will officially open the home season for the Tigers, as all their home, games "during the last month were rained out. The fans at Johnsburg are looking forward to this big day. A fine show is scheduled with entertainment furnished by the McHenry V i s c o u n t s Drum Corps who will open the ceremonies at one o'clock. Following the Viscounts the game between Johnsburg and Dundee will get underway. The Tigers will be looking for their first county league win of the year. They will be out for re venge after losing their first league game to Crystal Lake two weeks ago. Dundee has a strong team and it should be an exciting game. Everyone is urged to attend and help back the Tigers. 2>o&[ Jean Weyland <# Smith, 3b Crites, c White, rf Dill. 2b Spahn, if Lawrence, p Page, p Armstrong, p 4 3 4 4 3 2 1 0 33 McHenry. Second place money went to Joan Buss, Isabelle Cook and Kay Merley. Too bad Vera Herdrich's beautiful approach shot on No. 2 didn't win her more than a mention in this "yere colyum". Low Net winners for today were: Class A Joan Buss, Class B Marilyn Reihansperger and Class C Anita Vaupell. Next week is our Goffo Ball Speck Tournament. We will play in Foursomes which the Handicap Committee suggests you make up yourselves* preferably from your own Class. Be at the club house early if you don't have playing partners ahead of time. Julie will play 1 hole with eafefc foursome (1 hand, too). He has also scheduled a "golf clinic" for us in the afternoon and this should be a MUST for every girl. GARY ADAMS GAINS SECOND PLACE IN CONFERENCE GOLF By Janice Huff Last Tuesday the North Suburban Conference Golf match was held at the McHenry Country Club. Crystal Lake was the favorite because of winning the District- meet. Barrington and Palatine tied for first place with a 4 man total of 320. Crystal-Lake came in third with a 329 followed by McHenry with a 330. Other schools: Libertyville 341, Dundee 377, Woodstock 394, and Zion Benton 398. The McHenry Golfers placed 3 men in the top 8, but again as in previous matches they lacked a 4 and 5 man to help the other three. Gary Adams was tied for second with a 74. Bob Vaupell had an 82, and Bob Beckenbaugh also shot an 82. Steve Fike had a 96 and Randy Hughes a 92. McHenry Club News About 2,500 types of bugs known as "tree hoppers' have been classified. Frank Rourke tells me that Ed Buss managed to par the tough sjvth hole without hitting a shot any higher than his head. It seems he topped his drive, topped his second shot, topped his approach shot (which rolled up close to the pin) and then dropped his putt for a regulation (?) four. I have no way of knowing, but I assume he topped his putt, too. Don Wattles tried to call Buss at his office on Monday, but was told he was "in Elgin".
