Father Anger opened the meeting with a prayer. President Catherine Fredricks brought up various subjects to be voted upon. Chosen to head th§ association next season is Catherine Fredrick as president, Mig Joyce as vice-president, JoAmj Haag as secretary and . Pat Brennan as treasurer. J^ter Robertina won the attendance prize for having the most" parents present at this meeting. Students from the school entertained the parents at the close of the business meeting. Refreshments were served later by the committee in charge. Welcomes Son and Mrs. George Oeffliflf, Jr., of Jak-Ana Heights are the proud parents of a son torn on May 23. The young lad weighed 6 lbs., 14 ozs., at "birth. He^ has a six year old brother, David. Proud grandparents are Mr. Cook who resides with the Oefflings and Mr. and Mrs. George Oeffling, Sr. 0 Rescue Squad Call Once again the members of the Johnsburg rescue squad were called upon to lend their aid to a person in need. This time they were called to Mc- Cullom Lake on Wednesday of last week where a resident suffered from an apparent heart attack. tended Memorial services in Rockford over the holiday weekend. Their grandson, Robert Smeltzer, graduated from Harlem high school over the weekend. Next weekend an open house celebration will be held in his honor. The Smiths will make a return trip to Rockford for the party. Spring Grove Ushers Meet At St. Peter's by Mrs. Charles Freund The ushers of St. Peter's parish met at the home of Alfred May on Wednesday evening. Following the meeting there was cards and a lunch was served. Death Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to the bereaved family of Timothy Amort, who passed away on Wednesday, May 25. Funeral services were held in Chicago on Friday. Birthdays A double birthday celebration was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hofmann this week. Their son, Charles', birthday was on the twentyfourth when he was two years old and their daughter. Dorothy, was one on May 14. Tomm officially became a member of Phi Beta Kappa, honor fraternity, at a banquet at Sergeant hall, Northwestern • university, one r e c e n t e v e n i n g . He w a s o n e of six juniors and twenty-one seniors to be accepted into the fraternity out of an enrollment of about 85,000. The young pre-medical student also had the distinction of being named to Phi Eta Sigma honor fraternity his freshman year and to Beta Beta Beta Biological honor society his sophomore year. Henry Pevrg, a native of Paris, author of several publications and president of the Modern Language Association of .America, was guest speaker. Attending the banquet were KARL E. TOMM Karl's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Tomm, his sister, Bonnie Jean, and his maternal grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. E. G. Brust, of Melrose Park. Alpha Gamma chapter of Kappa Pi, national honorary art fraternity,.recently selected and initiated James Pearson of Ringwood into membership. Kappa Pi furnishes ,the highest reward for conscientious efforts in furthering the best interest of art in the broadest sense of . the term, by election to membership in the fraternity based upon meritorious work. Among the accomplishments, James has also been honored JAMES PEARSON this year for his work , in creating the cover design and acting as art coordinator of Towers magazine for the second consecutive year. An afternoon tea and later an evening dinner with students arid faculty were held for the contributors of the magazine, which is published each yeqr by Sigma Tau Delta, national English honorary. Currently, James is represented at the annual student art show which ^elects top works of the yeay> 'and is exhibited in the Fine Arts building. Next fall James Will do student teaching in the university school located on,Jthe campus of Northern Illinois university. Sunnyside Estates YQUNG ADULTS GRADUATE FROM GRAMMAR SCHOOL Lois Anderson A bank account does not show who is rich or poor -- only who has money. People are rich or poor from the inside, not from the outside. Seven of our young adults are passing an all important phase in their lives in the next few days when they graduate from grammar school. Those in the class from the Johnsburg public school on June 3 include Dennis Banker, Diane Bierchen, Vicki Jesski and Lillian Kelso; and from St. John's on June 5. Charlotte Gerke, Randy Kobus and Carol Kuntz. Polly Stevens will have the details )f both events for you next week but I would like to extend my best wishes to these graduates for the future. Association News ' The June meeting of the S.E.H.O.A. will be held tonight at the johnsburg public school at 8. Since the new officers will take over in July, the present administration will conduct its last meeting. Cake and coffee will be served as usual; after the regular business. Class Trip The eighth grade class of the Johnsburg school went by bus to Chicago last Thursday. They thoroughly enoyed their trip to the Museum of Science and Industry and Riverview. The class of twenty-eight graduates paid for the bus fare from the proceeds of their car wash day and selling candy at the basketball games. Vacation School's out, school's out, as if you didn't know parents. Happily for the kids, they now have three whole months of care free summer fun ahead of them. Motorists will, please note, there will be more activity around the neighborhood so please drive with caution. Happy vacation an end so "they" say.
