June 9, I960 McCullom Lake DANCING UNDER STARS STARTS AT BEACH, SATURDAY Eve Levesque 0s the '59-'60 school year fades into memories, the yoiing people of the community are looking forward to a little fun and frivolity, and will start with a dance at the beach on Saturday. 'Teen-agers from all surrounding communities are cordially invited. Small tykes up to age 13--are encouraged to start at 7 p.m. and cl^r the floor by 8:30 p.m. to way for thei'r grown-up counterparts who will waltz and rock -n' roll for are wo back to jitterbugging) until 11 p.m. These dances, well chaperoned, have proved to- bo very successful in the past and this year promises more of the same. The new officers of the 'teen organization with Miss Cjj|thia Tomasello as presidem, are anxious to make n J)i2" thing of their club, and, to provide enjoymenl for the people in their age bucket. 1 he : young people are hoping for co-operation from parents in the chaperone department. S^fnmer Festival Scheduled for July 23 Bill Walter, who did such a marvelous job on last year's summer frolic, will again take on the role of chairman for our annual festival which will be held on Saturday, July 23. As the plans begin to take shape, we will attempt to keep you informed of the progress made. little misses in the 4-9 age bracket can count on making an appearance in bathing suits because "Miss McCullom Lake of 1960" will be chosen. This event has proved to be the highlight of the affairs. Second to none in drawing a crowd is the ever popular bug- i gy "parade which will bo under j the guiding hand of Mi s. Thor- i es.*iiSchultz. These and many otlC*- features will be planned, to make July 23 a "rod letter i day"! ! was given by Lt. Mervin Schoenholtz, who is the assistant superintendent of the MCHenry schools. It provided a lot of "food for thought". Lt. Cel. John Fox (retired) placed the wreath on the Memorial as a special tribute to our three service men -- including his brother, who made the supreme sacrifice. President of tlie village, J. R. Levesque. and Art Stuhlfeier shared honors in the role of m.c. Miss Lynne Schultz led the pledge of allegiance to the flag. Sincere thanks from a grateful community to Commander of the Legion post. Harry Mueller, for his brief address, to all the members of the Legion post including the color guard, women's auxiliary, rifle squad, to thp Rev., Burton Schroeder and Father Rennell. and of course, the Viscount Drum arid Bugle Corps. The corps' 10 minute concert completely captivated, the audience. Mrs. Theresa Schultz doserves a great deal, of credit for her role of chairman of the annual affair. Memorial Day Service A Blue Ribbon Event Sunny skies, a sparkling lake, and well tended grounds provided a suitable setting for our annual Memorial Day services. It was an inspiring affair and very well attended, inmost provocative address Bake and Rummage Sale Sets Xew Record Delectable goodies and plenty of fine merchandise proved to be a drawing card for annual bake and rummage sale given by the Ladies of the Lake on Saturday, May 28. Portable radios, a TV set, electric ovens, bathroom scales, outdoor furniture and plenty of good clothing changed hands and found good homes! The total amount realized broke all previous records and swelled the ever growing Cullom-Knoll building fund. Verbal orchids to Elsie Nelson. Wilma Zodv and all the gals who helped thorn and carried the sale to a most successful conclusion. Deepest Sympathy To Mrs. May Kennenberg, Mrs. Genevieve McDonald, and Mrs. Theresa Cunningham during their bereavement. Their sister, the youngest of seven children. Mrs. Gertrude Bonema. passed away on Thursday. Juno 2, in Holy Cross hospital Ser\ ices were held on Saturday morning in Sacred Heart church with interment in St. Mary's cemetery. Mrs. Bonema is also survived by her husband, Peter; six children and twelve grandchildren. The deceased had boon a visitor at the home of Mrs. McDonald as recent as May 21. Don Osterby, Larry Smith and Roy Watson from the village while-Elaine Godina holds up the honors for Lakewood Subdivision and Eileen Homo will represent West Shore Beach. St. Man's school will hold commencement . exercises, on Sunday and Ted Olsen and Jim Morris will be receiving their covoted certificates. We cannot help but get nostalgic when we think of the trials, tribulations and plenty of highlights these eleven young folks have before them as they begin the great journey toward maturity.
