Undoubtedly consumer credit is here to stay. But families who understand interest charges and know how to translate the quoted rates into simple rates per annum can choose the least costly contract for "higher purchase." Making this delicious cake creation is a simple task. Buy 1 a square or loaf take at your i food store or stir one up in a jiffy with a cake mix. Stanard. director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture. milk from prize dairy cattle in production during the I960 Illinois State Fair will be checked for presence of antibiotics before it is sold. The Slate Fair established a milk collection depot last year. Previously the milk from more than 400 dairy cattle »vas dumped because there were no facilities to collect and store it. . . . . . . . : annual interest rate that fam- Tn a seven and one-half-day . j]jes pay when they buy on the milking period last year a total of 70,150 pounds of milk was collected. If^Jb^ $106 is repaid in monthly installments, the family really has the money for only hldf»the year. So it can de'ermWothe true interest rate by applying the guide; two times 6 percent is 12 percent, -the apical rate. ^ The rul# changes slightly when the interest rate is quoted on a mpx^thly basis. To illustrate. 2^percent per month is a common charge. First, multiply the monthly rate by 12 to get the annual rate. In this instance, 2 percent per month equals 24 percent per year. Now use the guide: Multiply the annual interest rate by two. Twenty-four percent per year multiplied by two shows that the interest rate is actually 48 percent per year. Or a $100 purchase with a 2 percent m fifthly interest monthly installment p la n^ j charge, paid in monthly install- Multiply the usually quo&cH ments, costs about $148. iPIfarm news Cobalt is one of the mineral elements classified as a trade mineral, meaning that it is required in very small amounts to meet the nutritional requirements of the animal. • The symptoms of cobalt deficiency in lambs ate lack of appetite, anemfa, lack of thrift and generalized weakness. In fact,' when severely deficient, lambs will appear to "starve while standing in front of a full feed bunk." The syrtiptoms of this disease show marked similarities to those of internal parasitism. On occasion, cobalt deficiencies have been confused with parasitism. The amount of cobalt required per lamb is very small and can be met adequately by feeding salt containing 0.1 ounce of cobalt (0.2 ounce of cobMt chloride) per 100 pounds of salt. Hays and pastures grasses containing 0.07 parts per million of cobalt on a dry matter basis have been shown to prevent an occurrence of cobalt deficiency in sheep. Cobalt deficiency may occur sporadically. There has been some question as to. whether the feeding of trace mineralized salt satisfied the needs for cobalt in sheep. Therefore, an experiment was designed to test the value of using cobalt "bullets" for lambs. Cobalt "bullets" are bolets that are orally administered. They lodge j in the stomach and are said to j dissolve slowly over a consider- I able period of time. Theoretic- j ally, this guarantees enough^ cobalt to meet nutritional re- i quirements for an extended i period. j Thirly ewe and thirty ram i lambs were paired and allotted j into four groups. One group of | each sex was given cobalt "bullets." The lambs were pastured together on range pastures of native and crested wheat grass. Due to drouth conditions the pastures were extremely poor. Lambs were drenched once for internal parasites St the start of the trial. A commercial trace mineralized salt was mixed with dicalcium phosphate and phenothiazine and was provided free choice. Lambs were weighed every thirty days! File Petition For Zone Reclassification A petition has been filed before the zoning board of appeals for Henry M. Schaefer. The petitioner is asking for a z o n i n g r e c l a s s i f i c a t i o n . T h e property is presently "zoned "F" farming district and the petition requests a reclassification to R-l residential and if this classification is allowed that it be varied so as to allow petitioner to plot two 75-feet frontage lots along the Fox River. This property is located between. the first addition to Sunset View and Oakland subdivision on the Fox river. The hearing on the above petition will be heard on Tuesday, July 19, at 3 p.m. in the City Hall in McHenry. HIGHWAY DEATHS There were 39 fewer deaths on Illinois' roads and highways over the first five months of the year than for the same period in 1959. According to Gov. Siratton, the total for this period was 579 compared to last year's total of 618, a reduct^i of 6.3 per cent. The month of May showed a reduction of 17 deaths over last year. The death total was 142 against 159 a year ago. This is the lowest total recorded for May since 1948. Illinois has established a record in bringing about a reduction of traffic deaths for the last four consecutive years. TUSSY WITH 4 FRAGRANT FAVORITES PLUS HSU.
