Many new ideas were brought up for the board's consideration. It is hoped that our association can become a more meaningful organization as a result of that meeting. An association of people interested in improving their community -- and interested ^planning for the future welfare of their children can be a very valuable asset. This coming week, however, the services will be conducted by a guest from the, Presbyterian church in Woodstock, Phillip Masslich. He has chosen "Growing Up" as his sermon i topic. The time of the service is j Sunday. JOly 17 at 11 a.m. Mr. Masslich has been an active layman in the Woodstock church for many years. He is an elder and is presently serving as a deacon. She reports that all the baked goods looked delectable and were snapped up very quickly. A big thank you goes to all who baked, to P^g and her committee which nfcluded Peg Anderson, Pat Borcovan, Helen Mathes, Maty Thienes, Lois Ryan and Madeline Freckdan. Thanks also to Lois McCormack. Marilyn Salo and Jeanne McHale who gave the girls a big hand in Ihe sales department, and helped to make the annual bake sale the stjpcess that it was. Local Doin's Peg and Walt Garrelts were among ihose who fought the crowds in order to take in the sights of the International Trade Fair one day last week. Jean and Mat Mersch spent the three weeks of Mat's vacation right in their own back yard, and the front and the side; getting a lot of work done. When Mat wore his paint brush bare he decided it was time to quit all this relaxing and get back to 'Work'. Lois and Ed Zender had a parly on the Fourth. Their guests for the evening were all from McHenry and included Mr. and Mrs. Harold J. Nye. Richard Loser. Miss McMahon and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kujawa. The Kujawas are farmer residents of McHenry who now reside in Maywood. Mary and George Thienes took their children to visit their grandparents in Evansville, Ind., while on vacation. George and Mary both call Evansville 'Hometown' so the children were able to visit with both sets of grandparents. They had a real goc^d lime although the 'weather was very hot. The Pickett household had many guests for the holiday weekend Mr. and Mrs. Gus Kayser, Margaret's and Francis' very good friends, came from St. Louis on Friday for a four day visit. Margaret's mother came from Waukegan on Saturday for a three day stay. Mrs. Enos Pickett and Mrs. Dorothy Hawn and her son came from Salem on Sunday for an overnight visit and on Monday the Picketts were visitods by Mr. and Mrs. Har ry Burke. Elaine and Jack Rogers had planned to go to Oklahoma City to visit relatives, however, they canceled the trip when they discovered that Jack's cousin's son had come down with appendictis while visiting in another city. He is reoorted to be doing well, and Jack and Elaine are really enjoying the freedom of a stayat- home vacation. Bessie and Willard Barnes visited their parents in Metropolis over the Fourth, showing off the baby to his many new relatives. Just a few days before leaving on the trip Bessie was pleasantly surprised by several friends who presented her with a 6 year crib. The surprise was a success under the co-leadership of Peg Garrelts and Rosemary Newlon. The Lindemans and the Freckmans enjoyed an impromptu get-together for a backyard barbecue one day last week. Pre's sister. Nancy Mitchell, of L. A., spent a few days with her last week' and her mother, Mrs. Alice Mc- Grane, of Chicago, also visited with them. Cher the Fourth the Lindemans enjoyed a family picnic which was held at Gages Lake. Many of Bob's folks attended. The Ryans had Jerry's brother and his wife, the Robert Ryans. over for a barbecue on July 5. Also present were Jerrv's parents. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Ryan, and his prandmnther. Mrs. Martha Schmidt. Rita had the girls from her club in Chicago out to her home for lunch. On the Fourth, the Borcovans, enioved barbecue at the home of El's mother in Twin Lakes. Wis. El's cousin presided at the grill and proved himself to be a talented chef, turning out manv different meats, done to perfection. Rummage Sale and Family Picnic Results The turnout for the. rummage sale wasn't quite as well attended as was hoped because there were a lot of nice items to be had. The left overs were given to the Salvation Army.
