The author is one of Barbara's dearest friends. Mrs. Bob Vogt of Champaign. This gal was a school teacher in Germany under our government plan. During this time she renewed her acquaintance with a young man stationed there. They had been students together at Northwestern university. They subsequently married and are now expecting their first child next winter. The couple, toured Europe and Asia from June 8 to Sept. 7, 1959 and kept a day-to-day diary which is complete in every detail. Their itinerary i n c l u d e d t w e n t y - f i v e c i t i e s from Helsinki. Finland to the north, to Gilbraltar in the south, and such countries in between as Russia, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal. They were especially surprised by the friendly nature of the Russian people who were very co-operative, during their stay. You can well imagine the culture they absorbed during their jaunt. Anna and Bob Vogt now reside in Champaign where she teaches grade school and he is a professor of mathematics at the University of Illinois. The occasion was her nineteenth birthday and the ' hostesses were Mrs. Dennis Straumann and ^Mrs. Jeiry Evans. •'••The new brides prepared pizza and trimmings and then were escorted to Cynthia's home in McHenry by their hubbies. Mrs. Jerry Evans is the former Liz Kosup who did a tour of duty behind the counter at Lottie and Gene's last summer. It was a very nice surprise for a fine young woman. These three gals were close chums all through school and have maintained their alliance. Going Up and Up! The couple had been spending the week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Odon Hupsch, of Orchard Drive. Both husband and wife were former residents prior to their marriage. In fact, their courtship took place in this community, when Millie's folks owned a store in what is now the Kennenberg residence, and Art spent his summers at his parents' summer cottage. Millie and Art also visited with Mr. and Mrs. John Boyle and Anne and Dave Boyle, more of the kids that chummed together back in the "good old days". k The Hupsches were accompanied by their two good looking children, Judy--16, and Bobby--11.
