Second was taken by ' Frank Davenport, Jr.. in Y 66, and third was taken by Gene I?ietle with Danny Arkema and Henry DeYoung crewing^ on Y 20. The Cub boats did not race on Thursday or Saturday because of a" regatta at Lake Delavan. July 30 the regular Saturday series race was held at two o'clock. The winner of this race was Councelor Norman Reese and his crew Hedy De- Young. Second was taken by Ron Schloemer and Ron Leganger. and third by Don Looze and John Masechel. Sunday morning at 11 the Sunday series race began. Jerry Schloemer was the winner with his brother Ron following in a close second. Norm Reese walked off with third. Later on in the afternoon an E boat race was held. The winner of this race was Jerry Schloemer and crew. In second was Sid Peterson, Sr., and crew, with Paul Armstrong and crew following in third. Despite a slight misunderstanding as to the whereabouts of bouy 5 the sailors all had a' pleasant race. Next week Pistakee is the host to the Wisconsin Yachting Association Regatta. The three day weekend will be filled with sailing and parties; lots of fun for all. With 60 to TO boats lacking for the best position at the start our sailors will really have to be on th^ir toes 1o win. We are all hoping for good winds and no rain. Summer must be with us. It's almost too hot to peck away at this typewriter. T'was a lovely day on the golf course; but we were lucky. If old "sol" had shown his face it would have been a scorcher. They all agree, as usual for this time of year, that it is useless to iish^ anytime but early morning and at night. Some white bass are being caught in the river. Sand flies, minnows and poppers are the best baits to Use. If you use minnows, fish them near the surface because the white bass in this area are predominantly night feeders and will usually strike surface baits better than anything else. The catfish are still biting, although not as good as they were a month ago. Fish are a lot like people in the respect, that they seem to get just as lazy when the weather gets hot. Well, you can't really blame them. We have noticed that many of the boating enthusiasts in our area have become more safety-conscious this year. This is partially due to the new state laws, but we like to think that people are just becoming more courteous and sportsmanlike. If everyone pbeys the rules of boating, our waterways will be a safer and more enjoyable source of recreation for all. SHAMROCKS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER AND TIE WITH RICHMOND Sunday the Shamrocks defeated Harvard and lost to Dundee in a doubleheader at McHenry. The Shamrocks ended the season with seven wins against seven losses, resulting in a fourth place tie with Richmond that will be playvd cff next Sunday at Richmond. The Shamrocks defeated Harvard 7-0 behind the three hit pitching of Ron Mauer. Denny Freund hit his third homer of the season in this game. Gene Freund drove in two runs with a long triple. Dundee edged put the Shamrocks 8-6 in ten innings behind t+ie pitching Of Don Plauck. R o g e r T i n d e r a n d G e n e Freund lead our' attack with two hits apiece. Jack Schaefer had a triple and Roger Tinder and Gene Freund each had a double. Gene Freund singled home two .more runs bringing his runs batted in total to 23.
