Vacationers Back at home after a week's vacation to Crystal Lake, near Cable, Wis., are Nellie and A1 Koppa with loads of fish tales. They made the trip with Nellie's sister, Helen and her husband, Ed Early. They had beautiful weather and caught enough of those finny creatures to provide thrills and a few meals. Delores and Jerry Rogers, Visitors At the home of the William Humphreys are Dorothy's parents, Mr. and Mrs. McGouirk, from Atlanta, Ga. They are staying for a month. Last week was hectic with the arrival of much company at the Burmans'. Visiting were Joan's aunt, Mrs. Agnes Eichelman, and her cousin, Mrs. Jeanne Fougerousse, who in turn brought her five children, Jeanette, John, Jim, Jeff and Jerry. Accompanying the group was Joan's mother, Mrs. Marie Leirevaag, who stayed for several days. Visitors at the Rogers home were Mr, and Mrs. Martin,. Stratton has approved the expenditure of $60,000 to be used by the Illinois Department of Public Works and Buildings for contract work in. connection with the improvement of Fox river at the Geneva, South Elgin and Yorkville dam sites. Work, is in progress at Geneva and Sbuth Elgin dams and work is beginning at Yorkville. The project ,for which the 71st General Assembly appropriated $2,100,000 includes construction or reconstruction of a series of dams in the Fox river for the accommodation of recreational navigation, stream control and conservation purposes in Kane, Kendall and La- Salle counties. Construction of levees, walls, utility alterations, appurtenant work and land and flowage right-of-way acquisition are in the proposed plans. ' Oswego dam i n Kendall county near Aurora is the next part of the improvement to be constructed. Three more dams at Montgomery, Sheridan and Milhurst are in the blue print stage. The oldest standing protestant. church in U. S. is St. Luke's Episcopal, at Smithfield, Virginia, built in 1632. Plan Hew Post Office At Lake Postmaster Paul H. Eberle, Wonder Lake, said this week he has been advised by the office of Postmaster General Arthur E. Summerfield that the Post Office department is now asking for bids tj build and lease to the department the new post office for Wonder Lake. Closing date for the bids is Oct. 17, 1960. "This proposed new building" Postmaster Eberle said, "will replace our present post office and will provide expanded service for our community. Specifications call for a structure containing 2,300 square feet with an outside loading platform and adequate space for parking and truck maneuvering." The postal department holds an assignable option on a 11.- 385 square foot lot on Hancock drive between East End*-drive and Wonder Lake drive. The successful bidder will take over the option, purchase the land and build to departmental specifications. Postmaster Eberle said he has been advised that the Post Office department will enter into a lease agreement with the successful bidder which will run for ten years, with renewal options running up to twenty years. Bids should be submitted, the postmaster advised, to the Real Estate Specialist, Post Office Department, Main Post Office, Chicago 100, 111. The Real Estate Specialist will supply information with regard to bidding forms, building specifications, lease provisions, etc. V.F.W.
