FORTY YEARS AGOi Taken from the Files of Aug. 19, 1920 During' the electrical storm last Thursday afternoon, the big Brandt ice house at McCullom Lake was struck by lightning and burned to the ground. The entire house, holding approximately 16,000 tons of ice, was filled to the roof last winter-and half of this is a total VJoss. The Plaindealer is in receipt of a message from Dr. D. G. Wells and son. Glen, who are now e njoying the sights of England. It was written on board the S.S. Negantic, fifty miles from the coast of Ireland, and carrying 2,215 ^passengers. Joseph Masquelet, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Masquelet, died in a Chicago hospital Sunday evening as a result of an accident in which he was crushed between two cars while working as yard master for the Chicago Junction railway. Workmen employed on the drainage ditch, south of town, killed a water snake Tuesday which measured four feet ten inches in length. A short time ago a snake approximately ten feet long was seen crossing the street in front of the village pumpkin station. It presumably had escaped from the circus which had exhibited here recenty. We are reliably informed that after the stotro, last week Thursday, a milk wagon standing on the Banford farm near Woodstock was full of hail stones. On the Peter Singar farm, very level and dotted with grain shocks, the water was eighteen inches deep around the grain. Several from here went to see the ruins of the hail storm and where he was visiting. So far as can be ascertained, this. is the largest wall-eyed ever caught in this vicinity. Mrs. Stephen Heimer had the misfortune to break her arm, for the second time, when she fell while walking on Riverside Drive Saturday evening. The arm had ortly been out of the cast a short time and was nearly healed from a previous break. A reunion of members of the Block ^family took place at Harmony court on Fox river Sunday, where some of the relatives were reunited after aibsences of twenty-seven years. The three campers were among fifty-two cerebral palsied participating in two fun-filled weeks at the Adult Cerebral Palsv camp near Carbondaje. witM swimming, boating, horseback riding, excursions, visits to county fairs, cook-outs, crafts, archery, nature studies, movies, etc. Camping for the three, who also included Bruce Copeland of Crystal Lake and William Cowl in of Woodstock, is sponsored by United Cerebral Palsy of McHenry County, of which Mrs. Charles Miller of McHenry is president. The camp, conducted by the recreation and outdoor education department of Southern university. is a major project of United Cerebral Palsy of Illinois and its local affiliates.
