Page Nine Wonder Lake FIRE DISTRICT ANNEXES AREAS , FROM WOODSTOCK •fane Ducey Highland Shores and White Bay Voted; Saturday to a n n e x e d t o t h e W o n d e r Lake fire protection district. The area was formerly in the Woodstock fire district. The fire department is meeting with the phone company officials Friday to map out a new alarm system for the entire Lake so that fire calls can be answered more efficiently. P l a n s c a l l f o r a n o t h e r f i r e |£juse on the west side of the Lake which is expected to be in operation next Spring. Wednesday, Sept. 21, there will be a meeting at the fire house at which a film will be shown, "How to Fight Gas Fires." This education is necessary due to the new natural gas installation at the Lake. The fire department and HighiKtfid Shores rescue squad in- ,^e any interested persons to see flie film. Also at the n^xt meeting 4he new numbering system sponsored by the fire department and post office will be explained. W. H. Tammeus of Woodstock will have completed the preliminary work by the end of this month. Postmaster Eberle will then notify each leaseholder of his new mailing aadress. The fire department will publish maps showing the numbering system of the entire area. Large maps- will be on sale to help defray the cost of the printing; small maps will be made available to each householder free of cost. Youth Center Directors IP To Meet Monday, Sepit. 19, at 8:15 p.m., the board of directors of the Community Youth Center will hold their regular monthly meeting. An invitation is e x t e n d e d t o a n y o n e i n t h e community to attend these meetings and enter into the discussion. In answer to the residents ^fo have expressed a desire to help insure the success and continuation of the center for our young people, we list these suggestions made by the directors: 1. Chaperone the various activities . . . volunteer your time for one evening, either husband or wife, it need not be on a regular schedule. 2. Join the organization . . . 3, Contribute your ideas to the Vbrd of directors ... ideaS are necessary as time or money to an organisation. 4. Visit the Center -- see what it is doing . . . the cheering section is important to the morale of the workers. 5. Contribute ... money, books, games, money, magazines, ideas, money . . . Kiwanis Peanut Day ^Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23 and 24, the Township Kiwanis club will have their annual peanut day sale at the traffic points, stores and intersections here at the Lake. . Hie Kiwanis Club will hear Mrs. George Koffman, president of the League of Women Voters of Woodstock and Mc- Henry, at their meeting Monday, Sept. 19. She will stress the need for voter registration, for voting, and the proper method of marking a ballot correctly. The LWV, the McHenry Kiwanis and McHenry Rotary have formed an "Every Vote Counts" committee and c a n provide a program for any organization. Paul Bunvan Country The Walter Dean family is enthusiastic about the northern Minnesota country. They snent two weeks traveling through Minnesota and Canada and plan to make another trip next sunpner. At Hibbing they saw the iron ore mines (largest in the world, we think), pullekl' 60 lbs.•,of fish out of the "big Winnie", viewed Pau1 Bunyan and his ox and visited Fort Francis and the Raney river country in Canada. They brought back a fish story . . . of a 12 vear old bov who landed a 24 lb. musky at Bis Moose lake. Tt took him two hours to land his prize which measured 4 feet in length. Nativity Lutheran Church News Three young people from the Luther League will present^, the sermon at the 8 and 10:45 services on Youth Sunday, Sept. 18. The title of the sermon is "Our Common Calling". All are welcome to either of the services to hear what our young people have to say concerning the place of Christ in their lives. The Nativity Mates, the married couples club, will have their regular monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 18. The program will be the showing of slides of the history of Nativity. especially from ground breaking to the day of Joyful entry. All couples of the church are welcome to attend and enjoy the fellowship. Junior and Senior confirmation classes will begin next week for seventh and' eighth graders, arid all are welstHJK; to attend. The group will meet at the church for a hay ride to a near-by farm. Refreshments will be servcid around a camp fire in the woods. The young people are using this occasion to gather all 'teenagers interested in attending their meetings this fall and winter. Unusual Accident Get-well wishes to Doug Sellek who fractured his ankle Saturday afternoon. It happened this way. Doug was crossing I^ake Shore Drive in front of Dean's Market coming from the beach, stopped to wait for a gas company truck to pass. He simply didn't see the trailer the truck was pulling and walked into the side of it. The impact flipped him and fractured h i ankle on both sides. It will be in a cast for 6 to 8 weeks. He hopes to be back in school soon and able to get around without crutches. SERVICE NEWS Vernon P. Last week the Hettermann's softball players captured first place and are now the playoff champs also. Hurt On Bike One of those freakish things that happen\every so often in our lives pu^young Billy La Fontaine in the hospital recently. Billy had an accident with his bike and hurt his leg. He didn't give it much thought as- kids will do as his main concern was his bike. It wasn't until about a week later that he started to complain about his injury. After several trips to the doctor and some sleepless nights for his parents, Cleatus and Evie, it was necessary to have him hospitalized. The poison had spread through his system and many shi>ts were- needed to combat the infection. His leg was lanced after several days and now we hope Billy is on the way to recovery. Pink Bundle Of Joy The Gregory Nowak home is row enhanced with a beautiful baby girl. The young miss chose Sept. 6 as her debut day and arrived at the Woodstock hospital that morning. "Butch" and Mary Jane will call their first born Mary Elizabeth.
