Here and There Marge Gabriel held a demonstration in her home recently. She was hostess to her neighbors and a few friends from Swanyside. Roger Schimpf, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schimpf was discharged from the Army last week. Roger is also the brother of Joseph Staudenmaier. Craig Thoren is suffering the discomforts of a broken finger. Glen Zilligen, Mike O'Mally, Joan and Margie Mclnerney and Steven and Jimmy Hurckes attended the birthday party for Carol Wilt in Claremont Hills last Saturday, Oct. 15. I am pleased to report that Agnes' Wroblewski returned home last. Wednesday from St. Therese hospital. She had surgery on her eyes. Marge Moreth, Vi Schuble and Lorraine Lindemann took a day off last week and spent it shopping in Elgin and enjoying a smorgasbord luncheon. Mr. and Mrs. Greiner are pleased to have both their mothers visiting here from Germany. Mr. Greiner's mother, Emma Greiner, and Mrs. Greiner's mother, Mrs, Anna Louttka, are enjoying their visit here with their children. They hope to extend their visit for another month or so. It is a little late but I would like to extend belated anniversary wishes to Mary and Ed Gabriel who celebrated their twenty-fourth anniversary on Oct. 4. Guy Erbin fell out of a tree and broke his wrist. He has it in a cast. Hazel and Martin Rogde entertained Mr. and lyirs. Halous Carey from DeKalb recently. Belated birthday wishes to Burt Froney who celebrated on Oct. 15. Cliff Krumwiede celebrated his second birthday on Oct. 11 with a few of his little friends and his grandfather Hapeman from Park Ridge. The youngsters joining in the fun were Vic Fick, Joyce, Jamie and Joan Malek. Lil Orlowski had company from Chicago last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Glowrski enjoyed a beautiful sunny day here in the Highlands. Miss Herman was out for a few days last week. She is a nurse in Chicago. The Jack Reilly family spent last Saturday in Hillside where they helped Grandad Reilly celebrate his birthday. Belated birthday wishes to Laura Gregg who was six years old-on Oct. 15. «Ed. Virginia and Janet Thoren were guests recently at the home of Lee and Harriett Marshall in Johnsburg. Your reporter attended a bridal shower last night at the home of my sister-in-law, Dorothy Zilisch, in Waukegan. The shower was in honor of Miss Camille Neilsen who will be married to Dick's brother, Bill, on Nov. 5. There will be no school at Johnsburg on Oct. 24. The teachers will be attending the Illinois Education Association meeting. The next school holiday will be Nov. 11, Veteran's Day. i Mr. and Mrs. Gabriel had their daughter, Napcy, and family out for a recent visit. While they were here they celebrated Mi*. Gabriel's birthday. I forgot -to mention it last week, but there is now a phone at the barn. This was installed for your convenience and the association hopes it will not be mis-used. Garbage is being tossed along Broadway up to the top of the hill by the Mike Contra farm. This is an unhealthy situation as well as unsightly. We hope who ever is doing it will please stop it now before serious action is taken. Bykotas Meet The Bykotas of Mount Hope, church met last Saturday evening for an old fashioned Halloween party. Planning the evening of fun, games and good refreshments were George and Marilyn VanZevern, Martin and Hazel Rogde and Fritz and Sally Von Bruenchenhein. After the ceremony in the church a meeting was held in the school hall. Refreshments were served. Rev. Cletus Anger presided over the church, service and the meeting. ^ Teen Birthdays A few 'teens who have October birthdays are Shirley Spankuch on Oct. 7; BudMessell chalks up another year on Oct. 29; Adrienne Schell is wished a happy birthday on Oct. 22; Denny Letwin ' celebrated his birthday on Oct. 14 and was home from the service in time to be with his friends to celebrate it. Missing A Dish' Anyone?? . Rose Farwell still has in her possession three bowls from the party .held on Sept. 10. This was the officers' dance. She has a glass loaf dish, a round glass dish with a cover and a fancy clear glass bowl. If you know anyone who is missing their bowls they can get them from Ross Farwell on Bunny avenue. m»3M Vandals at Work On Oct. 12 the sheriff's office was called to the Vern Thelen home where they found many windows in the home broken and oil poured all through the house. Cub Scouts There was a nice turnout last Wednesday evening at the barn fqr the first meeting of the Cub Scouts. There are about thirty boys from the Highlands and some boys from Sunny side and Johnsburg are joining our pack. There are a few den mothers but about five more are needed. If you would be interested in becoming a den mother you can contact Henry Zenner. I will have more names and details after the next meeting.
