^J^flghteen THE McHENHY PLMNDEALER iteir, November 22b* I960 McHetiry High School THURSDAY DECEMBER, 1st 7:30 p. m Youth Meets The Challenge Tonight in presenting this, the 13th Annual Football Banquet the Kiwanis Clubs of McHenry and McHenry Township, are aldhering to their tradition of helping to guide the activities of our young people into channels that will contribute to the pride of the school and the community. Kiwanis is proud to pay tribute to the Football Team of the McHenry Community High School and to all the young men and women who have supported their efforts arid "inspired them throughout the season. Each year special honors are shown the boy chosen by his teammates as the "most valuable" player of the year. In honoring him, Kiwanis feels it is honoring all of his teammates as well as all of the cheerleaders who have lent color and enthusiasm to every game. Kiwanis feels, too, that in so doing it is honoring all of youth - youth who must too soon meet the challenge of a changing world. Many persons have had a share in guiding the honored boy to this highlight in his school career. His parents, his teachers, his coaches have strived to help him understand the need for keeping a sense of perspective in evaluating success or defeat on the football field. His contemporaries have been his best friends and severest critics. His community has supported him and his team wholeheartedly. Collectively and individually each has helped to put him on the road leading to tonight. But - the roughest road for him is the road ahead; this road he must travel alone. We hope it will lead him to gratifying personal achievement. To fulfill his destiny he must be cognizant of what is happening in the world beyond the football field. Perhaps it will be his destiny to help solve the problems so evident in the recent political campaign. The major presidential candidates were agreed upon one point. We must preserve our freedom! Many avenues of conduct were explored. ShouM we "walk softly but carry a big stick"? or - Should we take a firm and aggressive stand against those who rob us of our birthright? Some avenues of exploration might misguide us into a point of no return. We hope we may avoid this. As science progresses at jet-propelled speed to new horizons, we find our little world is no longer self-contained. 1 It is the youth of today who will inherit the major responsibility of meeting this challenge. It is up to them to insure that their children do not live under the yoke of communism. We feel they will meet the challenge with courage and capability. We salute them! © Sponsored by KIWANIS CLUBS of McHenry & McHenry Township EVERYONE WELCOME--Tickets May Be Obtained From Kiwanis Members or at High School McHENRY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SQUAD MB Top row, left to right: Head Coach Paul Mandli, Roger Swanson, V.
