A miniature stork served as centerpiece, and a decorated cake was featured on the serving table. Christmas Program Will Feature Play ' A Christmas program will be held by the W.S.C.S. on Thursday, Dec. 15, at 11:45 o'clock at the Community Methodist church. Included will be a play entitled, "Remind Me To Live", given by the women's study course group. There will also be selections by the boys' ensemble from the high school. A salad lunch will be served at noon by the Sara circle. Mary circle will lead in "Spiritual Life". Surprise Shower For Sharon Hummel A s u r p r i s e m i s c e l l a n e o u s shower was held at the Legion home Sunday for Miss Sharon _Hwnmel. with about forty-five guests. ATTEND HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE AT NURSING SCHOOL On Sunday, Dec. 11, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gregor^'Visited their daughter, Judy, and attended the Christmas open house at the Fresbyterian-£*>t. Luke's hospital school of nursing in Chicago. The lounges arid rooms of the home were beautifully decorated by the student nurses iii keeping with the spirit of Christmas. Judy entered the school of nursing in September of this year. She was, one of 127 students selected by the faculty, from over 760 applicants, to be a member of their freshman class. Judy was active in school affairs while attending Mc- Henry high school and also worked part time for the McHenry hospital and the Mc- Henry Clinic. Kling, 1454 North Granada Vista, Crystal Lake, this week was named McHenry County chairman of the 1961 Heart Fund Campaign by John Tambone, M.D., chairman of the McHenry County Heart Unit. In making the appointment, Doctor Tambone said that Mrs. Kling was emminently qualified -to spearhead the heart campaign here. Doctor Tambone pointed out that more than half the deaths in the nation are attributable to some form of heart disease, thus being a greater threat to life than all other diseases and accident combined. "This tremendous toll bf life puts heart disease in the foreground as our major health threat as well as our primary sociological problem because of the dislocations in family and economic life caused by these diseases." Tambone emphasized that during the brief life of the American Heart Association with its affiliates throughout the country, dramatic gains had been" made toward the conquest of heart disease; new knowledge resulting from research, has brought almost miraculous new surgical technics, new drugs, on which when applied reduces the risk of heart disease, and new and improved methods for rehabiltation of cardiac patients. "The great partnership between physicians and laymen has achieved the prolongation and enrichment of life for many thousands. We are on the threshold of much greater achievements in the conquest of the cardiovascular diseases," Doctor Tambone predicts that "with the aroused public stepping up its participation in this greatest of voluntary health movements, the American people can and will bring diseases of the heart and blood vessels under control within the foreseeable future so that these diseases are no longer the major threat tb childhood and young adults in their prime."
