Page Ti^bpi Holiday MB* GIRL SCOUT LEADERS ATTEND ANNUAL LUNCHEON Eileen Longfleld - EV. 5-0342 The annual Christmas luncheon for Girl Scout leaders and committee members was held at the McHenry Country Club on Dec. 14. Those attending from our area' were Gerry Breede, Phyllis Harper, Shirley Haufe, Marge Potratz, Marge Schmidt, Mickey Walters, Earline JletteJka, Vi Abbink. Leona *fistes and Loretta Exline. The ladies sang carolsand there w&s a, Christmas grab bag. Women's Cliib Meeting The December meeting of the Holiday Women's club was held on the fourteenth of the month. The hostesses of the meeting, which was a Christmas party, were Chadie Ary, Loretta Exline, Gerry Breede and Katherihe Ryan. The ladies sang carols and exchanged gifts through a grab bag. The entertainment for the party was provided by the ladies themselves. The ladies were divided into groups of four and each group asked to improvise a bit of entertainment. Larry Olsen 4**d Mr. and Mrs. Bob Rankin joined Clarence and Inez in a Christmas party that lasted until the wee hours of the morning. COURT BRIEFS Cookie Exchange On Tuesday, Dec. • 13, about forty women took part in an unusual get together at the home of Mary Ann Mahon. Each lady attending brought homemade cookies which they exchanged with each other. Jean Baird helped Mary Ann as hostess for this lively evening of chit-chat and cookie munching. Konples Klub Meets Dec. 10 was the meeting of the "Kouples Klub" at the Clarence Young home. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Witzman, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Street. Mr. and Mrs. Carolers are Coming On Dec. 21 and 23 the Girl Scouts and Brownies will be carolling in Holiday Hills. The girls have been invited to the OleypTs on the twenty-first and to the Carlsons on the twenty-third for cookies and hot chocolate after their evening of entertaining the subdivision with Christmas mus^c. Familiar Faces The family interviewed this week is familiar to all of us. Elmer and Earline Mettelka moved into their home at 314 Hickory street in October of 1955. Ray, who is 10, attends the Landmark School and is waiting impatiently to join the Boy Scouts. Rita Ann, seven years old, belongs to the Brownies and attends Edgebrook school. Elm is a tool maker and enjoys bowling with the Tuesday 9:15 League in McHenry. Earline was a Den mother for the Cub Scouts and now takes an active part in the Brownie organization. Several motorists appeared in Wednesday night court. Walter Hauger of Wonder Lake - received fines on two charges when he appeared in court Wednesday evening. He received a seven-day suspended jail sentence and costs on a reckless driving charge, and also paid a $35 fine and $5 costs for disoi'derly conduct in connection with the first .offense. THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER was charged $10 for a stop sign violation in McHenry. Thursday, December 22, 1960 Reminder Santa Claus asked me to remind everyone that he will be on Griswold Lake road north of Casey's on Dec. 24 at 12 noon and will be able to stay until 3 o'clock to see all the boys and girls. He said he will have gifts for every boy and girls who comes to talk to him. I would like to wish a Merry Qhristmas to everyone. The word Xmas as a form of Christmas originated in the early\ Christian church. In Greek, X is the first letter of Christ's name. It was often used as a holy symbol. The auto is here to stay, but many motorists aren't.
