I hope 1961 brings the things you desire most. 1 was very sorry to hear that my Christmas column got lost in the mail. I scanned through |py notes from that week and came up with a few items that are still "of interest. recently at the home of Meryl Fletcher. Also exchanging gifts and chatter were Dee Greeg, Audrey Misavice, Marie Schli c k , T o o t s S p a n k u c h , A n n Szyplebaum and Pat Jackson. A Son is Born Janice and Jerry Janquart Welcomed a 5% lb. son on Dec. 9 at St. Therese hospital in Waukegan. The little fella will answer to the name David Wayne. Thrilled with the latest arrival are sisters, Cheri, Jeanne and Renes, and big brother, Jerry. Congratulations to the happy family. Happy Birthday Julie VanZevern had a party in honor of her sixth birthday. Joining in the fun and refreshments were Laura Gregg, Sheryl Dowd, Mike Morley, Dennis Sisk, Grace Jones, Missy Dobecki, Susan Lauth, Jeff O'Mally and Ricky Madock. On Dec. 19, Dennis Sisk had a party in honor of his sixth birthday. All his guests came for lunch besides the usual cake, ice cream and other goodies. Happy birthday to Randy Jackson who will be nine years old on Dec. 29. Blessed Virgin Sodality At the Christmas party of the Blessed Virgin Sodality the priests and nuns were guests of the sodality and they were presented with many beautiful gifts. Santa was there and Sister Clestra played the piano while everyone sang Christmas carols. Enjoying the dinner and gift exchange were Mrs. Robert VanZevern, Betty Sandelin, Betty Zenner, Tina O'Mally, Beverly Lawandowski, LaVerne Madock, Dot Orlowski, Kay Sielisch, Mary Madock and Marcia Dowd. Hilltop and 100 fee/c deep. Possession of the deed, guaranteed policy and all other papers were in the hahds of the association on Dec. 19. We should feel grateful to Mr. Thelen for such a nice Christmas gift. Has Party R o b b y J a c k s o n g a v e a Christmas party for some of his friends on Dec. 17. Robby's guests were Jim, Tom and Mickey Finger, Butch Gabriel. Johnny, Bozowski, Sharon Froney, Patti Bourbon, Tommy and Dale Morin, Carter Gregg and Laura Farwell. Card Clubs Carla Bales entertained her card club on Dec. 20 in her home. Exchanging gifts and enj o y i n g C a r l a ' s C h r i s t m a s punch, cheese dip and home made Christmas cookies were Lois Mason, Janice Janquart, Wanda Dobecki, Dolly Novotny, Dot Erbin, Marilyn (Geo) VanZevern and yours truly. Another club got together Hen* and There Pat and Ron Jackson entertained both their families on Christmas day. Dan and Betty Johnson attended the installation of officers of the Order of Eastern Star of the Richmond Chapter recently. Two of their friends were installed, Frank Moravec as Worthy Patron and his wife, Violet, as Associate Conductress. Kay Sielisch is most pleased to have her mother spending the Christmas holidays here. Mrs. Barry is from Cadillac, Mich. Another birthday wish to Jim Bales who celebrated on Dec. 23. The Christmas decorations this year were just beautiful and plentiful. It seems each year that more and more homes are being decorated on the outside. If there would have been a contest it would have been a difficult task selecting a winner, they were all so pretty. My family and myself spent Christmas eve at home with my parents as guests. STORE folks home in Spring Grove and we spent the afternoon visiting with Dick's family in Round Lake Park. Christmas night we just sat around while the boys took inventory of their gifts from Santa. Christmas is such a beautiful holiday, everyone seems to take on a glow of warmth and friendship that is't always there at other times of the year. Herb and Lorraine Lindemann had a busy holiday weekend. On Saturday they stopped at the home of Herb's sister, Noreen, in Chicago. Christmas eve they visited;their daughter Marily and family. Sister Pat was also along. Christmas day they were dinner guests at the home of Lorraine's sister, Bernice. They stayed there overnight and the next day they visited their son, Harry, and exchanged gifts with his family. That "sounds like a full weekend for the Lindemanns. Thursday* December 29, 1960 Johnsburg School On Dec. 22 the children enjoyed a gift exchange and Christmas party in their rooms. School was dismissed for the Christmas holidays that day and will resume on Jan. 3. Around the Highlands Lorraine Hurckes had her mother, Mrs. Rix, with the family for the Christmas holiday. Also spending Christmas day v/ithjgob and Lorraine were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schulz of Johnsburg. They are Lorraine's Grandparents. Happy birthday to Guy Erbin who will be nine years old on Dec. 31. I am pleased to report that Mrs. Haddock recovered very nicely from her recent surgery and was able to be home for Christmas. Wonder Lake HARRISON XMAS PROGRAM DELIGHTS LAfcGE AUDIENCE Jane Ducey • Harrison Christmas Program. The Christmas program which the studehts of Harrison school put on each year seems to grow more delightful every season (or is it that we are mellowing with age). Perennial favorites are Mrs. Stork's kindergarten tots who never look smaller than they do on the stage, waving de lightedly to Mom in -the audience. The afternoon group, using a Christmas, tree as a theme, sang "Merry Christmas." and "Happy Christmas Tree" in a chorus. The" morning kindergarten arranged the Christmas picture on flannel board and sang "Silent Night." "Away in the Manager" was sung by a sej£$ tet. Miss Brickley's first graders danced the polka, accompanied on the accordion -by classmate Jon Schlottman. Mrs. Seeman's first grade class said little "pieces" telling "All About Christmas." Mrs. Slavin's second graders described "Symbols of Long, Long Ago" with Patty Freund Victory Junior varsity of the Johnsburg school basketball team defeated Channel Lake 27 to 4 to give them their fifth straight victory. The starters were Dan Turner, Jim Herman, Dave Smith, Joe Schultz and Jim Korlof. The high point man for Johnsburg was Jim Herman with 10 points. Big Hollow is the next game and it will decide first place. introducing each child. Mrs. Zetterberg's second grade put on a skit titled "Because It's Christmas." "Christmas Happiness" was the title of the skit acted out by Miss Lundborg's .third grade class,rand Mrs. Wenck's class of the same grade told about "Candles for Christmas." Mrs. Peters fourth graders (dressed in pajamas and robes) had a Christmas record party. Their clever delivery of "Partridge in a Pear Tree" was much appreciated by the audience, judging from the ovation. Marty Frodin made a fine Santa. Miss Russell's fourth grade students acted out the story of the Elves and the Shoemaker in "Shoemaker's Christmas." Grades five through eight participated in the band, tonette band and chorus. Mr. ^ightman's band played "Oh, Little Town of Bethlehem", 'The First NoeT^' 'beautiful Savior",, "Up oh the Housetop", and a medley of "Deck the Halls" and "Jingle B/ils." The Tonettes, who have been practicing at .lunch and recess time to prepare the program were led by Ed Raske. They played "Jolly Old St. Nicholas", "Silent Night", "Oh, Come All Ye Faithful", and a medley of "Good King Wenceslas" and "Jingle Bells". The chorus under the direction of MiV Wenck sang this program. "CJod Rest You Merry, Gehtlemen", "What Child is This", and a Negro Spiritual ajt).out Christmas. Three girls sang "In a Lowly Manager", and the chorus continued with "Angels, We Have Heard on High", "We Three Kings", , atod, a Bohemian Christmas earol. The chorus concluded. the entire program with "Silent Night." The regular worship service will be held at 10:45, with Sunday school at p:15 on New Year's day. There will be no 8 o'clock service. All are welcome to come and start the new year in God's House, praising His name, and asking for guidance in the year to come. Teachers and officers of the Sunday school will meet Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 7:30. This meeting will be for all ~new and old teachers to help complete arrangements for the-second session of Sunday school to begin Jan. 3, to coincide with the worship service at 11. The "Women of the Church" circles will have a program oij worship in other countries. All ladies are welcome to either of the circle meetings. Tbe daytime circle- meets, -Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 9:30; and the evening circle on Monday, Jan. 9 at 8 p.m. Save your Christmas trees for the "Burning of the Green" Jan. 6.
