This tradition which has grown at Wonder Lake is sponsored by the churches of the area; Ringwood and Greenwood Methodist, Bible Church, Christ the King and Nativity Lutheran. Rev. Burton Schroeder and Rev. James McChesney told of the meaning of T^lfth Night and the tofch was set to the Chriotmas trees which the people had brought. Girl Scout News Darlene Browne, reporter for Troop 495. tells of the program presented by the three patrols of hfr troop recently. Patrol one showed how to take care of cuts, burns and other thjjgs. Patrol two tojd what you should have in a first-aid kit. Patrol three showed the do's and don't of hiking. The girls are doing this for their second class Scout rank. Meeting ended with taps. Nevj Year's Trip to Canada Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lamont spent a week in Leamington, Ontario, to ring in the New Y«!r with Sam's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. William Stevenson. Accompanying the Lamohts was Mrs. Minnie Dunleavy. Mrs. Lamont's mother, from Scotland, who hfis been visiting in Wonder Lake for the past six months. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Dockery apd Mr. and Mrs. George Taylor also made the trip. /The party left the Lake Dec 29 taking the new Freeway to Detroit and into Canada. They saw lots of snow but reported the roads wonderful and the weather fine. They visited many old friends from Scotland and Ireland whom they hadn't seen since New Year 1953. Bible Church News £fhcre will be a Youth for Christ rally in Barrington Saturday, Jan. 14. "Hidden Treasures", latest Youth for Christ film will be shown at 7:15, with the regular meeting starting at 8 o'clock. All 'teens are invited. Rev. Johnny Johnson, director of Camp Barakel in Northern Michigan, will speak at both services Jan. 22. This Sunday is designated as "Camp Rally Day" and during the evening service colored movies of the camp and its activities will be shown. All children of camping age are invited to attend, as well as the general public. Thursday evening, Jan. 12, at 8 p.m. the Ladies Missionary Guild will have their meeting to which all ladies of the Church are invited. Those coming are requested to bring their own sewing needs, such as thimble, scissors, needle and thread. Devotions will tee in charge of Mrs. Dan Tomano, and refreshments, served by Mrs. Cecil Vogts and Mrs. Lloyd Repke. Coming Events. .. This part of the Congo is at peace and the natives were glad to have their teachers return. Nativity Lutheran Church News 'The Long Road Home" is the sermon topic for Sunday, Jan. 15, at both the 8 and 11 a.m. services. The second session of Sunday school meets at the 11 o'clock service for your convenience. This makes it possible for everyone no matter where they live., to come to church, and also to make sure their children have a Christian education. Both are important in our lives. Immediately following the 8 o'clock service Jan. 15, the Mc- Henry Post of the VFW will present Nativity with the American flag and the Christian flag to be placed in the chancel of the church. Flags will also be given and placed in the Sunday school. The Nativity Mates, the married couples club, will meet at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon on the fifteenth for a special service project, that of pointing the furniture in the kindergarten and nursery. Christ the King Church News This week the CHAIR OF UNITY OCTAVE will be observed. All parishoners are asked to join in the Crusade of Prayer in the hope that those who are separated from the Apostolic See may receive this manifestation as an invitation to seek and find that unity for which Jesus Christ prayed so ardently to His Heavenly Father. Next month is Catholic Press Month, and the children of the church school will solicit your subscriptions to the Observer from Jan. 29 to Feb. 12. If you are not contacted call the rectory or see one of the head ushers for your subscription to the Diocesan paper, edited by Bishop Lane. Catechetical school resumed Sunday after the 9 o'clock Mass. All children Who have not made their First Holy Communion are to attend classes every week if they expect to make their First Communion. All public grammer school youngsters are to attend classes each Sunday, and the high school youth* meet every Wednesday night at 7:30 for their religious discussion group. Parents should see that their boys and girls attend these meetings to learn more about their Catholic faith. Adult inquiry group meets every Monday night at 8 p.m. Father Vanderpool encourages anyone who is interested in becoming a Catholic, or one interested in knowing more about the faith, to attend these informal but informative meetings each week at the school. The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine have adult group meetings at 9 p.m. Monday, The study on the New Testament is interesting and enlightening. All men and women in the area are welcome to attend. News Brief Christmas cards bring news of former Wonder Lakers. . . from Florida Dick and Hazel Von Bampus and their five children send greetings. Hazel says she doesn't make fruit cake down there--it molds unless kept under refrigeration. Her sister, Ginny, is a Major in the women's Marine Corps and is stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif., now. Dick is contracting at Sky Lake and Hazel is taking oil painting lessons once a week. ... Kay and Jim Stendeb&ch have missed old friends, but otherwise had a good year in California. . . .James Michael has reached the 5 foot 7 mark and is a sophomore at Pomona Catholic Boys high, Kay relates, whereas when the phone rings at home these days it's usually for Jane. ...
