Page Tweniy-Eighi THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, January 12, Pistakee Highlands Teens Are Busy Over Holidays Hazel Morley HY. 7-3820 On Dec. 21-22 some of the members went Christmas carolling. They were sorry they could not make it to all the homes but it was very cold that night. They wish to thank all «the people who listened. The Christmas party on December 23 was a huge success. Because of the cold ift was held in Lee Johnson's basement. There was dancing, ;g a m e s entertainment and presents for all. The club presented Mrs. Wilson with a beautiful serving tray. On Dec. 27 the 'teens went roller skating in McHenry. Afterwards everyone was invited ko, Lee Johnson's home for ^ncing, pizza and pog. For thi& party Carl Wroblewski came from Chicago to visit his cousins. i Most ot the 'teens attended the ice skating party on Dec. 28, given by Miss Sue Scholtz of Sunnyside. The club wished Honey Rielly a very happy birthday on Jan. 8 and to Jim Kosior on Jan. 9 and Jimmy Messel who celebrated his Jan. 11. A meeting was held at Beverly Peterson's on Jan. 3 A party is being planned for Feb. 11. Association News The first meeting of the new year was held on Jan. 4 at the community center. Roll call of officers and their reports were given. It was reported that 113 home owners are paid up members of the association and 169 lot owners are members in good standing. There will be a new garbage pick-up contract effective March 1, 1961. Homeowners will receive literature on this matter in the near future. - Lee Conway reported on the activities committee. She stated that there will be a dance on Feb. 11 if enough help is given to plan it and carry it through. Betty Warczak and Mr. Shastal voluntered their services to help. I will have more complete details about the dance after the committee has its first meeting. ^ " A letter of thanks and appreciation will be sent to John and Agatha Thelen for their generous gift of the barn and property to the association. Snow fencing cannot be installed on Broadway because of the expense involved. The meeting was adjourned and cake and coffee were served. . Dogs Still at Large Yes, the Highlands is still pestered by dogs running loose, knocking over garbage burner's, garbage cans and annoying youngsters. As a neighbor you hate to take serious action because most of us do. not want hard feelings with our neighbors. But if this dog problem continues any longer I'm afraid some residents are going to take action and disregard all their feelings about being neighborly. It's A Girl Congratuianons to Frank and Judy Krumwiede who welcomed a baby girl on Jan. 5 at the Woodstock hospital. Forms with which to .make the reports are available at all post offices and immigration offices. It is an easy matter to. fill out one of the cards and return it to the same Office. EDITORIAL FOR INAUGURATION DAY Taking his first oath of office as President, George Washington originated the .practice of concluding his most solemn promise with the words "So help me God." This, month another President will take that oath and use those words. Without exception,; every President of the United States has acknowledged the Fatherhood of God over all men, and has puiblicly recognized the dependence of this nation on Almighty God. In their inaugural addresses and prayers, especially, has this been evident. President Eisenhower said: "In our quest of understanding, we beseech God's guidance." President Franklin D. Roosevelt prayed: "We dumbly ask the blessing of God . . May He guide me in the days to come." "Die Presidents of this nation have, moreover, translated their religious faith into worship with their chosen congregations. Seeking God's guid- P.Ur udten &Son OXYGEN EQUIPPED AMBULANCE SERVICE Phone EVergreen 5-0063 ance and help to bear the burdens of the highest office in the land, the Presidents have sought it not only in the silence of their hearts but also in the silence of "our holy and beautiful house," as Isaiah describes . the Sanctuary of God. Seeing the inauguration of a new President. millions of Americans will again witness ^testimony to a personal religious conviction as well as a public expression of the faith of the American'" people. Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas said. "We are a religious people, whose institutions pre-suppose a Supreme Being." As the Religion In American Life Program urges, "Find the strength for your life . . . worship together this week." v Alexander Mackenzie crossed Canada, east to west, 12 years before the Lewis and Clarl? Expedition. He was the first known white man to cross the continent, north of the narrow neck of Central America. The United^ States has coated few cathedrals, but Oh!, those Motels!!
