Phil Bartmann, Sec'y. •bought a new bowling ball ancl- -?OX ghasn't bowled a game below Bob Beckenbaugh 'The tremendous errorts of Cliff Fulton's Warriors brought a smashing victory over the undefeated Crystal Lake Tigers here last Friday; McHenry High was up for the game because of "the rivalry between the schools that has carried spirit from every sport. The underrated Warriors really threw the major upset of the weekend in the crucial match that ended 62-64. Ed Samen started the game off by scoring seven of the first eleven points and grabbing the rebounds that ^ave us control of the ball. Bob Vaupell hit the first shot of the game with a 15 ft. jump shot and Paul Morenz readily showed the crowd his offensive ability when he hit 2 forty- footers. The quarter ended with the Warriors leading by two points, 15 to 13. The second quarter McHenry maintained a 34-31 margin although the lead switched hands several times. Crystal Lake put a press on McHenry early in the quarter but Bob Miller and Paul Morenz broke through and scored baskets that kept us in the lead. With 2 seconds left in the half Paul hit an impressive two-pointer from half court. •<t Tigers Roar Back The Tigers roared back in th-e third quarter and outscored us 16 to 10, but Bud Reid, excellent defensive player, led a Warrior offensive rally shortly after the fourth quarter began by hitting 2 long jump shots to give us the lead 48- 47. The initiative was set and the Warriors took full advantage of their talent." 'The ball* handling, control, 0and depth were too much for the Tigers to handle. Sharing tjie gratitude with Reid, who scored 10 points in the 4th, was Mike Reese who came in with 3 sensational driving clutch shots and Bob Vaupell with 2 jumps and important rebounds. With two minutes left in the game we had a lead of eight points and began to play control ball to confront a surging comeback by the Tigers. Morenz and Reid shared scoring honors for McHenry with 13 each while Bob Vaupeli wap close behind with 11. For ^Crystal Lake, Jay Edwapas and Jim Rosulek hit 19 and 14 respectively.
