Youth Group Will Sponsor Dance Feb. 11 The McHenry County Rural Youth grcup will hold a dance for all young people between the ages of 17 and 28 years on Feb. 11 at the Moose hall in Woodstock, between 8:30 and midnight. Berkley-Wagner Rite Saturday Zion Lutheran church in McHenry was the" scene of one of the year s prettiest weddings to date when Miss Doris Mae B e r k l e y e x c h a n g e d n u p t i a l vows with Mr. Edward C. Wagner, Jr., last Saturday, Jan. 21, in a 4:30 o'clock service. Rev. C. A. Lobitz officiated at the rite which united in marriage the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Berkley or Edgebrook Heights and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Wagner of Rt. 7, MCHenry. Bouquets of white carnations and snapdragons adorned the altar, and white satin bows were placed on the pews for the candlelight service. Mrs. Mary Ann Wegener was soloist, singing "O Perfect L o v e " and "The L o r d ' s Prayer". The attractive, young bride chose a white chantilly lace gown over taffeta, styled with basque bodice, long tapered sleeves and boiaffant skirt which widened into a\ court train. The scoop /neckline was detailed with embroidery of irid e s c e n t s e q u i n s and ^ s e e d pearls. Her fingertip veil was of imported silk illusion and fell from a double crown, of matching lace with iridescent sequins and seed pearls. Miss Berkley carried a cascade bouquet of white roses and stephanotis. Miss Sharon Berkley acted as maid of honor for her sister, and bridesmaids were Miss Nancy Rudat of Crystal Lake and Miss Sandra Berkley or McHenry, her sister. All were attired similarly in bright red satin dresses, styled with scoop necklines, bracelet length sleeves, fitted bodices and bell skirts, and waistlines detailed with narrow bands of self flat bows at the front. Circfifer milan veils were secured by self flat bows of matching crimson satin, and they had matching shoes. White satin gloves and pearl necklSSg^and earrings were gifts from^- the bride. All three carried cascade bouquets of white carnations and roses, with the carnations of the maid of honor tinted red on the edges. Donald J. Wagner served his brother as best man and groomsmen were Kenneth Will of Wheeling and Lloyd Pohlman of Woodstock. Mrs. Berkley selected forffigp daughter's wedding11^ sneOTft dress with matching jacket in Dior blue silk shantung. With it she wore a small matching hat, white gloves and black accessories. Her corsage was a white orchid. Mrs. Wagner wore a sheath dress of sapphire blue silk shantung, matching shoes, white g'oves and purse and flowered hat. She had a similar corsage: About 350 friends and relatives gathered at the V.F.W. clubhouse in McHenry for a reception following the ceremony. Later, the couple left on a wedding trip to Florida, alter which they will be at home on Rt. 7, McHenry. The bride, a 1958 graduate of McHenry high school, is now employed at the McHenry State bank. The groom received his education in Northfield, 111., and is now engaged in truck farming with his father. A recent miscellaneous shower was given at the Zion Lutheran church social hall, with Mesdames Elsie Maierhofer of S k o k i e , E s t h e r L e v e r e n z and Lydia Paulsen of Elgin, Laura Siegmeier of Crystal Lake, Edith Roeder, Barbara Wagner, Edna Wagner and the Misses Sandra and Sharon Berkley of McHenry as hostesses. There were 110 guests. K. of C. DANCE The McHenry Council, No. 1288, Knights of Columbus, will sponsor a dance at the Legion home from 9 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday evening, Jan. 28. PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schoewer of Waukegan, visited relatives and friends here Saturday and paid their last respects to the late Mrs. Mary Powers of Long Lake, at the Peter MJ u s t e n f u n e r a l home t h a t morning. Mrs. Robert Ulrich and daughter, Gretchen, of Redwood City, Calif., are visiting her mother, Mrs. Nellie Bacon, and other relatives in this vicinity. Rev. Fr John J. McGowah, former assistant at St. Patrick's church in this city, but now a chaplain at Scott Field Air Force Base, called on McHenry friends Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lawrence of Chicago were weekend guests of McHenry relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry 'Sharp were Chicago visitors Thursday, where they attended the funeral of his grandmother, Mrs. Caroline Koch, at St. Gertrude's church, with burial in „A.ll Saints cemetery. Mrs Koch and her late husband, Adam Koch, were old time residents of Pistakee Bay. Misses Judy Diedrich and Dorothy Stoffel left O'Hare Field, via jet, Friday, for a ten days vacation in Florida, where* they will be guests of Miss JeaneVte Freund aX Pompano Beach. " Mr. and Mrs. Edward O'Callaghan of Oak Park were here Saturday, to accompany tne body of her stepmother, Mrs. Mary Powers, from the Peter M. Justen funeral home to St. Bede's church, Ingleside, for services with burial in the church cemetery. Mrs. Walter Carey has been pending severed days with her daughter, Mrs. Jack McDonald, in Glenview, who has been ill Mr. and Mrs. Duke Adams and daughter, Joan, were recent guests in the Ray Walsh home in Fox Lake, where they enjoyed a visit with Mrs. Walsh's mother, Mrs. Wallace Hewitt, of California, who is spending some time here. The troop is grateful to the' McHenry Woman's club for sponsoring us again this year. All the girls in the troop are going to be very busy working on badges so that each one will receive a badge at the end of our meeting in June. In a meeting held before the holidays, Mrs. Regner presented Kathy Miller with her Girl Scout pin and she reGited the Girl Scout promise^ after which the other girls received their proficiency badges in various fields of scouting. Becky Kissling, Scribe HAIRDRESSERS MEET The Illinois Hairdressers and Cosmetologists of Northwest Suburban Unit 47 will meet Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 8 p.m. at Brown's Northern Light in Barrington. The final arrangements for the casual style and fashion show will be completed. Guest will be John Ippolitto of Chicago, well known as an outstanding stylist. He will speak^ on the new trends for spring. BENEFIT EVENTS The woman's auxiliary to McHenry hospital is planning a card party at the V.F.W. hall at 1 o'clock on March 21. A dance sponsored by the V.F.W. auxiliary on April 29 will benefit the hospital building fund. Our regular monthly meeting was held Jan. 16. Child Welfare Chairman Ilaverne Gregory reported many families received baskets and clothing at Christmas time. Helen Birmingham, Community Service chairman, will go to Valley Hi Nursing home on Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. Anyone who wishes to go, please contact Mrs. Birmingham. Membership Chaixman Frances Matchen reported we now have 341 members. Our annual membership dinner wUl be held Feb. 11 and reservations must be made on or before Feb. 6, either by calling Mrs. Matchen or Lil Conway. The dinner is restricted to members of the American Legion auxiliary but h u s b a n d s , boy f r i e n d s and guests are invited to join us for dancing after 9 p.m. If you have not received your new membership card, please notify Frances . DAMAGE SUIT VERDICT A verdict of $1,750 was returned by a jury in circuit court last week in favor of Michael Kampe, 11, who asked for $35,000 in a suit filed by his father against Ralph Schuler of rural Woodstock. Although the earthquake there has-moved off* page one of our newspapers, the Chilean people still suffer its terc£le effects and must do so for many months to come. This is why the American Legion auxiliary has chosen Chile as the current Pan American study project. Through CARE, auxiliary units have an opportunity to send the people of Chile the tools and equipment they desperately need to rebtiild their communities. Mrs. - ers received the unaninrnis vote of the membership present to send a donation to CARE for Chilean relief. Phyllis Nimtz was named for the attendance prize but she was not present.
