MARY FRANCES IMLEY Administrator James M. Mclntee Attorney 105 West Elm Street McHenry, Illinois Tel: E\%rgreen 5-2440 (Publish Feb. 2-9-16, 1961) CHURCH GROUPS OBSERVE WORLD DAY OF PRAYER MINOR CRASHES OCCUR IN CITY DURING WEEK Three minor accidents took place within the city last weekend, causing only property damage. The first occurred on Rt. 120, in front of the Jewel Tea store, on Friday, involving cars driven by Chester J. Tychewicz of Valley View Road, McHenry, and William G. Loose of McHenry. Police say both cars were travelling west, Tychewicz on the outside lane and Loose on the inside lane Loose attempted to turn into the right lane and the parking lot and in so doing was hit by the other auto. Two minor crashes occurred Saturday. James Chrisman and Thomas R. Dowe, both of McHenry, were driving east on Rt. 120, when Dowe stopped for a train that was switching on the track. Chrisman hit the right rear of the Dowe car. The same day, cars driven by Wayne B. Bares of Rt. 3, and Margaret A. Oik of Clover Lane, McHenry; collided at Elm street and Riverside Drive. Bares was driving west on the outside lane on Elm street when he was hit by the Oik auto, which was making a right turn from the inside lane. A minor accident occurred late on the afternoon of Feb. 1, causing minor injuries to Casimir Kasperski of Rt. 5, McHenry. He was taken to McHenry hospital for treatment by the Johnsburg rescue squad. Kasperski was driving on Lincoln road in a snow storm when the car slid off the road and hit a pole. Marking the seventy-fifth anniversary of World Day of Prayer, sponsored in the United States by the United Church Women of the National Council of Churches, the Ringwood Methodist church will bold services at 1:30 o'clock on Friday, Feb. 17. Mrs. K. E. Cristy, spiritual' life chairman of the Women's Society of Christian Service, will direct the program, with women from Faith Presbyterian of McHenry, McHenry M e t h o d i s t and G r e e n w o o d Methodist churches assisting. It is hoped that everyone will make an effort to join some group for an hour of prayer on this day, carrying out the theme for this anniversary service, which is "Forward Through the Ages." From a day set aside back in 1887 at the suggestion of ortp woman of one denomination to pray for the success of its home missions and to bring gifts for their support, World Day of Prayer has grown into a giant inter-denominational, international prayer circle. People of 145 countries now take part, and in America more than 22,000 communities hold special services. When the World Day of Prayer celebrates its diamond jubilee this year, one of the goals, is an offering of $750tQQO for the regular projects and for two anniversary specials. One is a massive literature program for the new Africa, and the other is a creative mission in Alaska. Your Income Tax Social Security tax rates for old-age benefits are still 3 per cent, Harold R. All, district director of Internal Revenue, reminded Chicago employers. Mr. All said he was issuing this reminder in response to a large number of calls he has received about an insert mailed \Vith the Employer's Quarterly Federal Tax Return, Form' 941. "The insert called attention to an increase in the Federal Unemployment Tax from 3 per cent to 3.1 per cent applicable to wages paid on and after Jan. 1, 1961," Mr. All said. He explained that this particular tax (FUTA> is paid en-, tirely by the employer and reported to IRS on Form 940, Employer's Annual Federal Unemployment Tax Return. Em«-. ployers of four or more individuals on at least one day of each of twenty weeks are those liable for this tax. Mr. All said the social security tax remains the samel 3 per cent withheld from the employee's wages, and 3 petcent paid by the employer, or a total of 6 per cent. These rates apply to the first $4,800 of wages. He said these taxes are reported quarterly" on Forms 941. He also said the social security rate for the self-employed remains at 4% per cent. UNDER 21 A column lor teen-agers By Dan Halligan DEAR DAN: My girl and I have been going together for nearly two years and see each other several times a week. Not too long ago I got transferred to the night trick at our plant and ever since then we've been having trouble. My girl has the idea I could get back on days again if I wanted to and is mad half the time because we can't go out as often as we used to. She also thinks I should be able to phone her sometime during the evening but I can't always get to a phone. All this has happened just because I was changed from the day gang to the night gang. Is she being fair? I've told her I don't run the factory but she still refuses to listen to reason. -- Heckled. DEAR HECKLED: Of course, your girl Isn't being fair and if she would take time from her selfish thoughts, she'd realize it as much as you and I do. Very few employers prefer working at night to a day Job. Your girl seems to be only thinking of her own pleasure and With her present attitude, she wouldn't make a very good wife. DEAR DAN: My parents won't allow me to date until I'm 16 but my sixteenth birthday is just five days after my bestJHend's sixteenth birthday party and I think they should make an exception. Don't you think I should be allowed to attend the party with a boy? My friend lives a. little more than a mile from my house. -- M. J. DEAR M. J.: Five days might make a difference in certain circumstances but I think in this one, allowing or not allowing you to attend a birthday party with a boy, they shouldn't. If you were my daughter, I would allow you the privilege but your parents are your boss. 'J) FLOWERS •for your Capture her heart with a beautiful bouquet of flowfor Valentine's Day that say . , . Phone •vEV. 5-2800 DEAR DAN: I'm pretty well acquainted with my girl'i parents and know what she is and isn't allowed to do on I date. I know, for instance, some places that have been ruleS off-limits for her but she still insists when we get out thaif we should go to them because that's where all the fujf is being had. To be honest, I'd like to go to them too but I don't think it's my place to cheat on her parents. We've had a couple of arguments about this and I know I'm right but I still thought I would write and ask you for help. -- S. R. DEAR S. R.: If your girl won't respect her parents' wishes, how can you expect her to respect your wishes? She's all wrong and if she wants to go to joints ruled off-limits fot her she's just going to have to find another escort. She sounds like she might do it too but as long as you've respected her parents' orders, that's about all you can do. DEAR DAN: I work two nights a week as a waitress and meet many young people of my own age, 17, on the job. Last night I got to talking with a young fellow and liked him from the start. After he left I thought he was gone for good, but when I got through with work, I found he was waiting outside in his car for me. He invited ipe td ride around with him and I accepted. Later he took me home and didn't even try to kiss me and we made a date for next week. I-told my mother all about him and she said I was picked up and couldn't date a boy I didn't know. Was this a pick-up? After all, he introduced himself as soon as I got "in the car and he knows most of the kids 1 dp even though we attend different schools. -- Anxious. DEAR ANXIOUS: You definitely were not being picked^ up. It would have been better if someone had introduced you two and possibly if you hadn't accepted the boy's offer of f. ride home but as long as the evening turned out so well, why worry. Again, you were not picked up. Since 1884, the prices of the average listed stocks rose 11 per cent during the second six months of Presidential election years, and 1 per cent in the same period of non-election years.
