UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT Your deliberations affect the well-being of millions of our fellow citizens and of the entire economy of our state, Gov. Kerner told members of the unemployment compens a t i o n advisory board. One of the most effective steps that can be taken to arrest the downward spiral of purchasing power is a substantial increase in the maximum weekly unemployment benefit, the governor said. He added that ^Illinois' $32 maximum benefit is less than maximum benefits of 35 other states, including all but two of the industrial states. Gov. Kemer asked the advisory board for recommendations for changes in the unemployment compensation program to be presented to the Legislature.
