Carol Ann Stilling and Susan Pitzen completed their Easter vacation and returned to St. Coletta's school in Jefferson, Wis. Many of our college students also are now deep in school work again. FIFTY YEARS AGO Taken from the Files of April 13, 19U William Cowan of Solon has taken a position, in the R. I. Overton livery barn. Rev. William Voeltz, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Voeltz, of this place, who now has a charge at Cupar. Saskatchewan, Canada, has been asked to take the charge at Rochelle. Ill- Joseph N. Freund. father of Math. Freund, Pearl street blacksmith, and who passed the greater part of his life in this vicinity, died at his late home in Wauconda Sunday morning. John W. Schaffer, who up to a short time ago was engaged in the blacksmith business in this village, is rebuilding his old shop located on Waukegan street, opposite the R. T. Overton livery, and expects soon to open an auto garage therein. Business men and citizens residing in Centerville have petitioned the Bordon Milk company to raze ,the old' mill in that part- of town, which has not only been an eyesore an"' a nuisance, but a fire trap as well, as the youngsters, ahou* town, have been making it "smoking headquarters". The Plaindealer has recently printed a neat little catalog for F. R. Goodman in which he describes and quotes prices on dahlias. He has one of .the finest dahlia gardens in this part of the state. Charles Armes, former proprietor of the Arlington hotel in Waukegan, has secured a five year lease on the Mineola hotel at Fox Lake, the resort that is owned and been made famous by Eld. Howard. It contains 106 rooms and they are all occupied during the summer season. Her only injury was a fracture of the right arm between the elbow and wrist. The two months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Freund, who reside near Johnsburg, passed away Monday evening. Funeral services took place from St. John's church Johnsburg, this (Thursday) morning. While returning home from a trip to the country Monday afternoon, a Ford sedan owned by John F. Freund, was struck by the afternoon milk freight at a railroad crossing near Ringwood. Luckily the driver escaped injury. A twelve year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pierson, met with a painful accident Tuesday when after being thrown from a horse the aninuu stepped on his hand breaking two bones and causing a painftil laceration. Dean, 70 years old, superintendent of Crystal Lake schools since 1910 and well known in state and internat ional circles for more than forty years, died at his Crystal Lake home Sunday morning after a long illness. Arthur D. Krause, until recently employed at the Standard filling station, on Riverside Drive, has taken over the M. J. Baur ice business. "Pink" Gorman has taken a lease on the Standard Oil Station, located at the corner of Riverside drive and Elm street. Elmer Metyer is now operator of the West "McHenry station where "Pink" was formerly employed. The Ladies Aid society met with Mrs. Louise Nickels Thursday afternoon. During the business session, conducted by the president, Mrs. D. I. Granger, Mrs. C. W. Klontz and Mrs. James Sayler were appointed as delegates to represent the society at the Centennial meeting.
